Giving consideration of braking out my old 23CII enlarger once again I went under the stairwell in storage and was looking it over and found this bolt on the baseboard. I looked over the enlarger and can't figure out where it came from. Any ideas?

With the key, I'd expect it to be related to the carriage. beyond that?

I've looked it over top to bottom front and back and can't figure where it would have gone and how it came out.

David, I believe this is the adjustable stop that adjusts the head perpendicular to the easel in the vertical position. It rests against the carriage plate that moves up and down. This is the adjustable stop when rotating the head from the 'project on the wall' position back to the normal project on the easel position. There should be a threaded sleeve that it screws into.

Yes, I believe it's 129. I was typing when you put up the drawing.

There is a metal screw that does that at the bottom. This one seems to be made of nylon with a metal nut. I'm going to try and slide under the stairwell where the enlarger's located and see if I've got enough room for a pic...it's tight under there for an ol' timer and I can't stay hunkered down too long!

Should be the nylon bolt so it doesn't scratch the paint when in contact.

Yep, that's the part. Looks like it was replaced with a Home Depot carriage bolt substitute!

Nope, that's the way it came. I still don't know what that other bolt/nut is for. It seems long ago when I put the enlarger under the stairwell I head something pop or snap. That must have been it but thinking I wouldn't be using it anyway I let it be. Now, I can't recall where it came off of.

Well someone put in a carriage bolt where the nylon bolt used to be. My 23CII has the nylon bolt/steel nut where you have a common carriage bolt. Your configuration is definitely not 'factory original!'

You know, as I ponder over this I think you may be right. I don't' recall doing it but in all likelihood I may have gotten aggravated at the nylon bolt getting stripped and got a metal one. The only thing is I heard a snap like sound when I took the enlarger off the table to pack it away ans shoved it past the door and into the storage area. It could have been I took that nylon bolt and nut out, tucked it behind the baseboard where you couldn't see it from the front and forgot about it.

Years later after putting the enlarger away, it could have fallen off on the concrete floor of the storage room and somehow got underneath the baseboard by it's edge and when I moved the enlarger over it snapped giving that sound. Pretty good logic and definitely not impossible. If you look at that original bolt/nut you can see where it was stripped.
