Beseler Dichro 45S Help

Can anyone help me with a Beseler 45S Dichro colorhead? I am trying to set up a darkroom for a friend, who has a brand new 45S. For the life of me, I cannot get the enlarging bulb to go on. All connections seem fine, and the fan works. I called Beseler but got no reply. This thing has been in a box for two years and never used. I think it cost $4500. Can anyone steer me in the right direction? I am stumped.

Does the fan start, and do the LEDs on the front light up?

Are the numbers on the LEDs changeable by turning knobs and do they make sense?

If there is a no to any of these, then unplug the unit, open the door at the top, and jiggle the computer cards gently replacing them true and square to the chassis after doing this.

The above, if it corrects the problems, was caused by corroded or loose circuit boards in the digital unit behind the LEDs, and may have been preventing the light from coming on. If it was not a fix then we have to go deeper. There is a diode that can cause some problems, but I am not versed in this one.

Make sure that you have it on "focus" and move the lever that switches from white light to filtered. If that doesn't work, try a new bulb.

Aren't there two plugs for this thing? One that gets plugged in to an always-on circuit and powers up the main unit (so the computer circuitry stays on), and the other one which goes to your enlarger timer, so it can turn on and off the bulb without powering down the whole head circuitry? My recollection is that the second cord has a weird little connector on the head and if you don't have it, it's tough to track down. But it's also possible you just overlooked it in the box and didn't know to connect it up like that.

If this is the 45S head it is not the computer head and is more or less analog with three noobs adjusting the dichroic filters and a lighted analog scale to indicate the cc's of each color.

On the bottom right of the head there is a lever that will give you white light for focusing. If you don't move the lever back you won't be able to make an exposure. It is a fail safe to prevent you from exposing your paper with white light.

If that is not the problem, try a new bulb.
These are great heads, practically bullet proof, but no where near $4500. More like $450.

On the bottom right of the head there is a lever that will give you white light for focusing. If you don't move the lever back you won't be able to make an exposure. It is a fail safe to prevent you from exposing your paper with white light.

If the bulb is burned out it's the FEV bulb. They last a while though.

Is FEV the same specs as EVW? When I had some of these heads they were definitely EVW bulbs:

Oooh I'm really sorry. You're right. It is EVW. FEV for for my Mole Richardson 200 Watt fresnel. A thousand pardons. I get too smug sometimes remembering my bulbs.

Beseler 45S colorhead

Folks--This is a 45S I am talking about. I believe the model 45 is the computerized model. The 45S is more analog.

Yes, the fan works and the knobs light up and work. It is just the enlarging bulb that I can't get to work. I have changed bulbs, no use. I have the lever set correctly, and the wiring is exactly the way the manual says. This model does not have the six-prong connector. I cannot get the light to go on no matter what I do.

I am trying to figure out if something is set wrong, but it is a simple set-up. The weird thing is that this is a new enlarger. Thanks for the suggestions.

Meter the voltage at the lamp socket. It should be ~82V. If not, it's possible corroded contacts in the socket itself.

What's between the wall and the lamp? Step down transformer? 120V in 82V out.
