I just acquired a Beseler 45vxl with the 8x10 conversion kit. It seems to be missing the negative carrier or I have only two halves of two different carriers. Or I have to metal plates that I don't know what they're for...

could someone post a pic of the 8x10 negative carrier?

thanks..

Hard to tell from the pic but is it possible this is part of a negaflat holder?
Is the central area 8X10?

The frame doesn't have an 8x10 aspect ratio.

that frame in the above photo was included with my enlarger. I just don't understand how it could hold a negative unless there is another part missing..

What you are showing is the 8x10 carrier. This carrier holds the film without glass. To insert the 8x10 film you push down on the two narrow plates that are screwed down with the 5 small crews. When you push down on one side it opens very slightly and you insert one end of negative while still pushing down on the plate. When you release the plate it holds that side of the negative then do the other side. It holds the the 8x10 negative taut.

I had the enlarger but sold it. The negative clips into the holder on one side and little notches on the other. I don't think there were two pieces.
I also bought off eBay a 5x7 holder that someone had made for themselves and decided to make about 10 units and sell them. they were two piece and worked better than the original holder.
Also I printed 4x10 using the 8x10 holder. I just taped the film in the open end.

I understand now! I suppose it would help if I had an 8x10 negative to try...there goes the budget..

thanks for the replies.
