Hi all - I just purchased a Beseler 45a which on the outside looks unused - even arrived in the original box.
Problem 1:
When I press the focus button, the lamp flashes (normally) and then 'pops' off and the controller resets. This can happen anywhere from 2 to 30 seconds. In the manual it is supposed to run for 60 seconds before turning off. I replaced the focus lamp with a new one that was supplied and this problem still occurs. I am unsure if this will also occur when a tube other than the focus is going bad. I was also given a new exposure lamp, and I exchanged it one at a time with the remaining 5 lamps and this problem still exists.
Problem 2:
Sometimes during an exposure and definitely when the focus does what is described above the whole unit will flash a much brighter light and then the light will cease, the controller will reset.

Does anyone knowledgeable with the 45a think I'm looking at just bad lamps or something more sinister within the controller? thank you.

bad controller - possibly the flash discharge capacitors. Now I'm on the hunt for a working 45a (again).
