I recently found an opportunity to purchase a Beseler 23CII (not sure if XL yet) for a reasonable price. I am super-new to the whole darkroom experience and was wondering if this enlarger would be a good start. I've also considered buying a new Omega C700 or Beseler Printmaker 67.

I only shoot 35mm and 6x6. I obviously want to start with B&W, but I have not ruled out the possibility of color in the future. The maximum size I forsee printing would be 16x20.

How would you suggest that I proceed?

the 23c is a great little enlarger and will print those size negatives and infact even larger.

if it is in good shape it will last a life time. I would certainly take that over the printmaker, but am not familar withthe c700 so can't reply.

Good work horse unit with many parts, heads and accessories around because of its popularity. It would make a great enlarger for your situation.

Yes, it is a very good first enlarger. I bought a 23CIII, which is very similar, recently and I love it. The best part is that all kinds of accessories and spare parts are still available. Even Beseler still services enlargers.
