I have 55mm for my Nikon that I like since I can use as normal lens + macro but I feel that the lens to subject distance is limiting. I reckon 100mm may be better in this area.

The advantages of a 50/55mm macro are smaller size and weight, less extension, faster aperture and lower cost. The advantage of a 90/105mm macro is greater working distance.
 
I decided to purchase the AF version of 35mm f2.0 it arrived today, and although I haven't had chance to test with my newly acquired body, I have to say I am satisfied with the focus feel. Not as smooth as manual lens but way better than my Nikon AFD.
