A friend of mine has an old Canon AE-1. I want to buy batteries for him but am unsure what battery # I should look for. Also, how many does it take? Thanks in advance.

The AE-1 is a battery-powered (one 4LR44 or 4SR44) microprocessor-controlled manual focus SLR.

There are 2 types for the battery the 4SR44 silver oxide and 4LR44 alkaline. You can use either one but the silver oxide one would last longer.

When the AE-1 was current and new, the designation for that battery was listed as a PX28. I sold so many of them, that that designation is the one that I think of, but 4SR44 or 4LR44 are more commonly seen now.
Strangely enough, 4LR44 batteries are used in dog collars as well.
