Just got an F90X. As good as my F100, maybe better. Only problem I see is the plastic coating

I just bought an N6006 for $20 , already had a N8008s which I bought for $600 used with a 35-135 lens and flash. So the 6006 was a nice addition as it has a very similar layout. That said I'm thinking an N90s might be nice to find.

The 8008/F801 is a very featured and nice camera; I think you can buy them for like $40 from keh.

I bought a Pentax ME with a normal lens on ebay for $15 with free shipping. It certainly works.

I quite like the canon rebel cameras. The 2000, Ti, and T2 are probably best, with T2 being the most recent generally best model from the series. Those are the American model names. I don't recall the international model designations.

These are not canon's professional series cameras, but they are very full featured, and the bodies are small and light, so they are good travel cameras.

These are quite common on ebay and sell for relatively low prices, though I think the prices have been generally rising for the last year or so.

If you are just starting out don't pick just Nikon and Canon as options. Remember in the long run most of your money will be in lenses, flashes etc.
Minolta and Pentax also made some fine SLR bodies and you may be able to get better deals on lenes for them. Pentax is great in that just about any lens made in the last 50 years will fit on a K mount. Minolta however changed their mount when they went into autofocus. Even if you want autofocus 99% of the time remember there will be that 1% where an old specal manual focus lens will be what you need.
