Heads up!
I purchased a few bottles of rodinal last year with batch #'s 89464 0. These bottles are the ones with the smaller caps and the original agfa logo.
The unopened bottle stored in cold dark cabinet yielded a blank roll of efke film. See my earlier post: (there was a url link here which no longer exists)
After processing a sheet of 8x10 with identical results, i shot some 4x5 test sheets of other films and got nothing again. I tried a bottle from a different batch and it worked fine.
I do used distilled water.
I'll be taking the bottles back for a refund.

Was the developer stock very darkly colored? All the Rodinal I ever used turned so dark you couldn't even see throught the working solution before it gave up the ghost.

For goodness' sake, before trying to develop film, do a snip test. A sheet of 8x10 is too big. Cut up some old stuff or get a roll of 35 mm just for the purpose. 54 inches of film makes a lot of half inch snips.

As a matter of interest, is the bottle translucent or opaque plastic?

I bought the stuff from freestyle. Translucent bottle. I've never before had a problem with rodinal, ever. The rodinal sold last year and the new stuff now isn't nearly as dark as the old stuff. My results are the same though.

I followed some directions on digital truth, Rodinal 1+100, 20C, souping Pan F+ exposed at ISO 25 for 15 minutes. Negatives came out thin. How do I tell if my developer is some of the sour stuff?

I have written to Agfa/A&O, they ought to know if there was a problem. I don't think so, though. They have super equipment and raw materials.

You could try a different bottle. I could send you a small one to test.

I just got a response from the factory, they say that batch # 89464 was produced on August 18, 2004, and that this batch is known to be perfectly good.

Sounds like you need more time in the soup. Remember, DT is only a starting point. I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that your Rodinal is bad based on this only.

Sorry to hear your problems.

But, I have to say, I was half expecting to hear "My rodinal didn't work. I got no grain!"

Perhaps you do have a bad batch, but did you try mixing the rodianl at your usual dilution and throwing in the leader from a roll of film?
