The other big benefit of Leica glass is that you can almost always sell it without losing money. cant say the same for Zeiss lenses and certainly not Voigtlander

Only if you buy them used.
Most extreme example I am seeing right now - the Noctilux 50 .95 is $12000 new, and I have recently seen it being sold for $6000 used. Even before Covid I saw them for $6500 used.
If you buy that lens at $6K, you're ok and most prob can sell it for more in a year. If you spend $12K, wait 30+ years before you get that back.

Dan, If you want the set-up to feel exactly the same, then get the same lens. I've used different versions over the years. Personally i never liked the aperture tab on the V2, or the V4 versions with the
'tigerclaw' tab.....but that's my personal preference based on handling alone. As others have said, there is a choice of lenses out there and several of them are very good. Being in Tokyo, I'm sure you can check them out. The Nokton V2 1.4 lens that Ko.Fe. mentioned is very good, but not a close style match for the Summicron in image character. All the lenses you mention are old, and you'll pay a premium for one in pristine shape. If we're strictly talking Leitz lenses, to me, the desirable ones are the ones with the least plastic parts... but honestly those of us chatting on forums are the only ones who really nerd out about versions, the career photographers just used them as tools.

True true. The only Summicron without plastic I know of is the first version with 8 elements. Every other version after that has a plastic focusing tab. V1 is just a little too expensive for me. I can get the latest version brand new for almost half the money.
Ok he very latest version actually is the biggest and heaviest. I don’t know what they’re trying to do.
