Backpack for RZ67

Hi All,

Usually I prefer to lug around my 8x10, but there are times when I have recently enjoyed 6x7 in the forms of a Mamiya 7II or a RZ67. I have a super trekker I use to LF, but its way to big for casual use with a my MF setup.

I was thinking about a lowepro mini trekker. It looks like it would be enough to hold either my Mamiya 7 or RZ with several lenses, backs and film.

Just curious if anybody had any experiece with this or any recommendations. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I use the Lowepro Omni-Trekker. It just fits what I want to carry of my RZ stuff, can be used as a shoulder bag for short walks, or back pack for hiking the trails. It will also fit airline carry-on rules or into a Pelican hard case. Just another option to consider.

I use the Mini Trekker for my P67 kit with 4 lenses, spot meter, film and filters. The Pentax isn't as big as the Mamiya RZ, I think, but, if you can try one out and it will fit, I recommend it as an excellent pack. (You can also strap a tripod to the underside of the thing with the two loops that are there. I usually carry my 'pod over the shoulder, but I have attached it to the bag before as well.)

Yesah, I have a AW Computrekker by Lowepro and lug around my M645 and a minolta XG-M and all the fixins. It's very adjustable and comes in handy having a lot of gear on site when I want it.

Check out PhotoBackpacker, one of the sponsors on this site. I have one of his modified Kelty day packs (used for 4x5) and really like it. No reason that it would not work for the Mamiya. Good service too.

Gary, I would not use the mini trekker for your RZ. The side walls are flimsy and the shoulder straps are not meant for the weight. With the weight of an RZ and a few lenses the straps dig into your shoulders. There is a reason this pack is cheaper, it is made for lighter weight systems. I used this pack when I first got my RZ and got rid of it quickly. The size of the pack is good for an RZ an extra back and a few lenses, but I would look at the more expensive lowepros even if the size is similar. The walls will be stiffer and the straps more comfortable.

You're absolutely right about Photobackpacker's gear working for the RB/RZ 67. I have an PB's Kelty day pack and with the use of a number of his cases my pack holds:
1 RB body with WLF
1 65mm lens
1 90mm lens
1 180mm lens
1 Metered Prism
2 Film Backs
Lots of film/accessories
Filters/Lenshoods

And I have lots of room left over. Everything packs/unpacks suprisingly quickly and the whole system really works well for me.

l use the mini trekker AW for my RB. I can fit the RB, 3 lenses, 2 backs all my filters and my mamiya 7 in it without any issues. I've been using it for 3 years now and had no problems at all. Excellent build quality and very well thought out. Perhaps the AW version is better made?

The bigger lowe pro bags weigh a lot by themselves. If you are already hauling a hefty camera around this extra weight is a pain.

Also, no way was I going to spend > £80 on a backpack. My mini trekker AW was £65

Thank you to everyone for very helpful info. I really would like a Photobacker system, but the cost of getting it to me, makes a little high. If I was planning a trip back to visit family I would order one and have it shipped there.

For the time being I found a used Minitrekker here for $45.00USD, used exactly once still has the tags on it. For the price I paid, if it doesnt work out I can turn around and make my money back pretty easily.
