There's not much room in the back seat of Beetle for doing much of anything besides seating.

Missed the pic, but the back seat of a VW? Been there done that. In a canoe too, because you know, I am Canadian.

faulty battery connection, hot manifold, slight oil leak from a firewall mounted external oil cooler,
rubber core of stock gasoline eroded ... so the car ended up a "burner" ... even tho the rear seat cushion was removed, and the back folded flat providing more room, it didn't help much when
the smoke and flames started
the back seat remained in storage ...
maybe that is what happens to the back seat ?

nice photograph OP, I saw it before it was removed
