lol! I went through the same thing awhile back with Olympus OM equipment, in fact I still have an occasional relapse.

As far as the hidden cash thing - it's easy. That's why I have 2 side businesses that never seem to turn a profit...

I wouldn't be using film if I had to have a lab develop it. It's my picture, and I should be controlling it's creation.

I use film because I can use a darkroom. Take away the darkroom, and I wouldn't shoot film. I'd use a filmless camera.

Actually, when I bought my Hassy (and a few lenses, ahem), I told my husband it was less expensive than three pair of Gabor shoes. And after all, hadn't he married me because I prefer cameras over shoes! That was something he could subscribe to.

My wife has been going to Pt. Elliot, a quiet beachside summer location on the south coast of Adelaide since she was a child. For 3 weeks each year she lolls about relaxing and socialising with people who like her, have been doing the same thing for decades. Of course these days our daughters are with her giving me 3 weeks of blessed peace at home. At Pt. Elliot they allways stay in the same caravan park, so for many years she either had to borrow or rent a van or put up a tent. Five years ago I bought her a caravan of her own. This has given me a lifetime of brownie points plus a new Hexar Rf. 28, 50 and 90 Hex lenses, Cv 21 and 35 lenses and just recently a new Leica M6ttl. The van was without doubt the best investment I've ever made.

This is one of the many advantages of woman. They are really good in planning due, for instance, to their analytical mind.
I found men more emotional than woman, the energy they spend to hide the emotions is huge and by this betraying them. This is why I suppose that men, sometimes, are (over-) compensating in 'action' and 'force'. Woman are more subtle, Nicole has proven it again.
We, men, should learn to have more respect for woman and no more to consider them as the 'sexual opposition' nor inferior. I think they are true companions in worse and better.
To me, woman are the memory of the world and they carry the heavy moral load (not only the children), they are 'l'origine du monde'...(not to mention Gustave Courbet).
Perhaps, then, we should no more to have to hide things, and act reasonably.
This is why I find this threat to be interesting, beneath the surface it's all about how we live with confidence, I know, this is damn difficult...
But of course, appreciation will have to com from both sides.

The equipment sits in the back house (my studio) for a couple of months, I get to explore the ins and outs of it in private, then one day, it just appears. The GF wonders where it came from. I answer truthfully, I got it awhile ago. The 5x7s were a bit tough to hide, but it worked eventually. Now all I have to figure out is how to break the RB67 to her. That's one BIG camera.

All will be fogiven when you bring back the first set of prints of the baby.

Just remember
1) to get three sets of prints so each set of grandparents get their own photos.
2) to start by numbering with the back of each print with the year, roll number and frame number [2007-1-24]. This will make finding the right negative for reprints much easier.
3) to store each sent of negatives in an archive storage with the year and roll number. A notebook with plastic pages that hold each strip separately or achival box.

Then you will have the original prints and negative when the rest of your generation has lost their childrens' d******l photos in computer crashes.

I was browsing over at Nikonians and spotted an N90s that was too good a deal to pass up (including MB-10). Here to fore I would have had severe angst over the purchase but becoming a Sole Propietarship saved us more that 2500$ on 2006 taxes. As my wife looked down the list of new lenses and cameras she was amazed and pleased that I had followed her sage adviced and launched a portrait and event photography business. Now I made no money last year because of lack of time, but I have already polished off one weddiing this month and I am looking forward to more portraits and a wedding in June. Did I mention that N90s came with a grip?
