. They are perhaps the most transparent manufacturer of any product I've ever come across, which is why it gets my goat when people don't seem to know what's happening with them, or complain that they're not yet making Chrome 400 film in some obscure format.
Perhaps they are manufacturing b&w 640 ISO films for Maco to get incomes...Hey Ferrania ... why aren't you making Chrome 640T film in 220, 620, and 127 yet?
Honestly, I stopped paying attention or caring that much.I am curious how these guys are doing???
Their main communication channels are social media, like Instagram and Facebook. When I was on Instagram, I followed Ferrania, Nicola Baldini and Dave Bias (I tried to mark him here, where the heck is he gone?). Now I’m not sure of their status…
I had a similar question.I am curious how these guys are doing???
If it happens, it will happen when it happens, and someone here will hear about it and post the details. Naturally, everyone hopes for the best. In the meantime, continue to use the films you like.
I’ve just visited Ferrania’s website and saw the last post in their news page. It’s from July 2020. I thought something had gone wrong with their plans, since they didn’t post anything else since then.
But then I checked their “Where to Buy” page and saw that they have a list of brick and mortar shops selling P30, with 27 of them in Italy. Looks good and impressive, but I can’t be certain if they have any stock.
So, I decided to check one of the online retailers that carry Ferrania and found that Macodirect has it in stock. I tried to add 70 rolls to my shopping cart, but the site said they could only deliver 57. So, Macodirect has 57 rolls in stock!
That takes me to two possible assumptions: (1) Ferrania is delivering film to retailers; or (2) P30 isn’t selling well. It’s hard to believe in #2… I mean, it’s harder for me to believe that.
I guess Ferrania got their production running and are moving forward, although it seems (looks pretty clear to me) their 120 line didn’t get ready according to their plans.
they wouldn’t send a free unperforated roll to Cine-Dia in France to get the 9.5mm format started again. Next year will see the Pathé Baby system turn 100.
My problems with Film Ferrania is that P 30 is not panchromatic
Speed drops inordinately in gray weather and inside with window light. I’d say you are lucky to get ISO 40 under those conditions. As indeed Greg Davis said in his film comparison video as well as making the point about its speed I say this as Greg was the first that I recall who demonstrated this with his colour chart . Until then my impression was that some others kind of hinted at its ortho aspect but it was by no means 100% clear to me until I watched his video

They have made it VERY clear that they aren't going to make any new updates until they achieve full in-house production of P30 in 135 and 120.
I imagine Dave Bias got sick of the abuse he received and buggered off. Can't blame him. The entitlement displayed by some posters here and on the Film Ferrania facebook group beggars belief.
That’s a risk you take when you back a Kickstarter. You are not buying a product. If by entitlement you mean those of us who are annoyed because we were original backers of the original Kickstarter and still haven't received fuck-all over four years later, then yes, call us entitled.
That’s a risk you take when you back a Kickstarter. You are not buying a product.
You backed them to save film manufacturing machines, not to receive film.

How about entirely forgetting about “getting something”? And be happy that you helped them regardless of what happens. And I have been content to wait and not harass them because I am aware they have been having all kinds of issues with getting to full production. And I'm happy to have helped save a film production factory. But I've also been through several rounds of "we're going to give you X", then "No, we're going to give you Y", then "We just don't know what we're going to give you, since we abandoned making the original product we told you we were going to make, and now we're selling commercially some other product, and oh, we're not making that other product in the size you need".
At this point I have pretty much abandoned the idea, as they have abandoned their original backers. How about entirely forgetting about “getting something”? And be happy that you helped them regardless of what happens.
I think Ferrania would be thrilled if people would collectively decide to not give a toss about any “rewards”.
