Hi all,
I was going to lead with a 12 step joke but decided that I would forgo that... I do have problem though. I have a bag of outdated B+W film that is not getting any fresher and I suppose I need some help with using it up.

I rotate my small cameras through three camera bags and, in honor of the new year, on Wednesday I up-ended them onto the bed and tidied up the contents. The result of this effort was four ziplocks worth of outdate B+W film. There was nothing particularly exotic unearthed, mostly Ilford and Kodak, mostly all 135. I ended up with one bag of 120, one bag assorted BPF, one bag major brands, and bag of asst.. I figure that I can handle the disposal of the odds bag, the rest I would like to give away to APUG'ers who would be interested in shooting some old film.

The catch is this: you have to actually shoot film, process it and proof the result. I am going to take my remaining bag, set out on the train after my coffee on 1/22 (or 22/1, if you are of that mind) and return after I have finished the whole cache. The last return train is at 12:01 the next day so that gives me 14-16 hours to make about 600 pictures. I propose that however takes the film follow my example: load the film up and shoot until the film is exhausted. The nature of using outdated film is that you must be prepared for random results. I suggest you embrace randomness and get to work. A classic canard advanced to support the superiority of "D" is that volume has a direct proportionality to learning. I have always argued that repeating the same mistakes over and over does not induce learning but I could be wrong. I do think that what separates artists from dilettantes is practice.

Anyway, if you are interested, post a note here with what you would do with a bag of film. I will cover postage to the winner but duty etc. is your problem.

Well, very shortly I will have an SWC headed my way. It'll be my first 120 camera, and I'd like to give it a good work out. I'd be interested in participating in this with the 120. Can't say I'd proof every shot, but I will at least contact them all :D

I would definitly be able to take the neighborhood kids that come to our house to learn about film photography out to shoot my old Kodaks. Right now, we use a bunch of P&S 35's that I pick up at a resale shop and Goodwill. Most of the kids like the darkroom work as well, only a couple of them dont like printing(to each his own). In the summer I work with the 4H to teach a one or two day photo session during an annual two week art camp. We already proof everything that gets shot, and they get to print what ever they feel is their best shot for an exhibition at the county fair.

sounds like fun

I will gladly accept 35 and 120, whatever you want to send will be used :D

you want scanned contact sheet? no problem

I could totally use some 120 film. I also just got my first medium format camera. Though, a big bag of it might be overkill for me. This semester I am taking a digital class so I won't be shooting as much film  I have a darkroom in progress, but have access to the very nice darkroom at school for printing.

Can't tell you for sure what I would use them for, other than for taking pictures, lol. Could be pictures of my friend's dogs to landscapes.

I'd love to try out some 120 and 35mm. Sounds like fun and a chance to finally shoot 120 in my 120 cameras!

Hi,
A small update. I processed some random rolls out of this stuff and found some of the rolls seemed to suffer "freezer burn" (i.e., condensation damage). I sorted through the stuff and dumped anything that I felt was suspect for storage problems as well as the weird bits. It seemed to me that since it was already a risk shooting outdate film it was no use sending possibly damaged stuff or film for which there was no dev info. I divided the rest into lots depending on what format you said you were interested in and the recommendations of my 5 y/o daughter. I stripped off all the packaging to save weight, but saved any info that was included. Bags should post tomorrow to:

Everyone should get c. 5-6 rolls of some funky film. Shoot it with no expectations and post anything fun you get I have some info from my experiments with processing outdate film that I will post as soon as I get chance to right it up.

I was wondering when this film would appear...
