I'll start off: D-23 STOCK is supposed to develop 600 to 800 square inches per liter.

That should equal from 1.666ml to 1.25ml of stock solution per square inch of film you are developing.

Square Inches of film per format (rounded-up for safe margin):

Roll of 35mm x 36 exposures or 120 film = 80 square inches, roll
8x10 film = 80 square inches, sheet
Whole plate (6.5 x 8.5 inches) = 56 square inches, sheet
5x7 film = 35 square inches, sheet
4x5 film = 20 square inches, sheet
Quarter Plate (3.25 x 4.25) = 14 square inches, sheet

Miss your favorite format? Add it in...

Multiply the square inches of each item in the tank/tray with the minimum stock solution (your choice, be conservative or daring) to arrive at how much STOCK solution must reside in the total fluid volume within the tank/tray.

The above hyper link is the only reference I could easily find for D-23 capacity.

It would be nice to have these in one thread that can be referenced when this question tends to arise AND I'm having trouble locating other developer minimums in a reasonable fashion...

EDIT: forgot to add this is for ONE-SHOT only, no replenishment or time adjustments for extended use.

That is for 36 exposure rolls of 35mm film - you may want to specify that.

I've never really given much consideration to this. D-23 is so cheap to make, I just pour out enough stock to make the amount of working solution I need at whatever specified dilution I am using. Then, I throw it away.

I make D-23 stock 2 liters at a time and store it in a brown glass jug. If there is any left after 6 months, I mix a fresh batch.
