Utter nonsense. The MRC coating was & is first class & the brass mount rings on B+W & Heliopan are much nicer than the aluminium ones that the competition use. I'd tend to rank B+W filters well ahead of most Hoya filters, at least from my experience of both.

After looking for the source, I think we should all do exactly that to avoid reacting to incomplete or inaccurate claims... not necessarily by “KR”.

Not sure what to think of Mr. Rockwell.......
He IS human and he DOES make mistakes.....so do we all.
Is he really as wrong, as often, as his detractors seem to claim.?
I cannot help but feel there are some "underlying factors at play where Mr. Rockwell is concerned. Is it straight up jealousy, or is there something else going on.?
Maybe he DOES give lousy advice or shitty opinions.?
I really cannot say. I have read stuff from his website a few times, but nowhere near enough to know if he is a "crack-pot".
I think, maybe, some people get bent out of shape that he has a big presence on The Internet, and they do not.? Some of these people may well know more than he does, and that bothers them.?.......that they are not "In The Lime-Light" so to speak.
Perhaps a lot of people lose sight of that fact that he is frequently just relating his experience and giving his opinion on things.......that what he says might be counter to there feeling...but he can still be "right".

Perhaps i have made a mountain out of a mole-hill.?
But there DOES Seem to be more than enough Ken Rockwell "hate" to go around.

Whatever you want it to mean!
I don't think he means the quality of coating, but rather the type & quantity of coatings - not all B+W or Heliopan's are multicoated unless you choose the multicoated version - but the B+W multicoating is more like the 'evo' grade of Hoya in terms of flare & environmental resistance.

To me it means why take a chance by paying a lot more.

If you want filters for black & white, MRC B+W's (or the Heliopan equivalent) are significantly nicer than the Hoya HMC's. They also have a much wider range of colours available, especially Heliopan. Both also make a variety of slimline & wide-angle mount variants.

I think Heliopan, B+W and Hoya all make filters that perform very well. I kinda doubt anyone can see the difference in a print. But I know there are many for whom only the very best best will do, and they are going to enjoy using Heliopan and B+W

Yes if the coating thickness varied, you would see very significsnt color banding when viewing reflections on the surface and variable transmission losses when looking through it.

The coating process makes it well-nigh impossible to create such a circumstance: The material is vaporized inside a vacuum chamber and settles evenly on all the surfaces. More common is deviation from the ideal thicknesses, or the glass is made with wedge.

Indeed they are, but the difference is trivial at best. However I'll take brass over aluminium any day.
