:-(

The 553ELX is gone, whether temporarily or forever we will see. I left a bag somewhere, and when I returned, it was gone. Now I am chasing it.

That means that I will have to buy new body, poor me. I have shortlisted two 503s, which I find somewhat overpriced (as I dont need the WLF and the A-M screen), and a naked 500C/M which looks untouched. Alternatively, I could go down the Duracell rabbit role of buying another 553ELX, but mine might eventually return

So, let's celebrate the opportunity to make a trip to GASington Manor.

I miss my 553 big time, but...I accept that it never became "my" camera.

When I sold my 203, it left a big hole in my heart--so I replaced it immediately with a much less expensive 501CM. Not as versatile, but it works. Maybe another 203 in the future, but my new 907X is keeping me busy--and all my glass works (with adapters).
Hoping for the return of you 553 must be stressful for you, and my 80-year-old recommendation would be to find another 553 and make it "your own." Just a thought.

Maybe my post was not clear - I lost the 553 but it was returned to me, and then later I sold it. Now I miss it but i know that buying it again cannot turn back time.

I just came back from another trip. Double-burdened with film and digital bodies - next time I will make up my mind what to take with me.

I have taken 120 B&W Ilford HP-5 all over the world. 2008 in Iraq with temperatures over 100 degrees F. In Texas the same. No issues.

Enjoy your project!

Actual experience is a real eye-opener, eh? Live and learn. Much more productive than just talking about it on forums. Which are you likely to take next time?

I am on a trip right now - Iceland, Greenland, and Canada. I brought Hasselbald SWC, 500C with 50mm & 80mm. 2 A12 backs. Plus an Olympus C7070 digital (28 to 110 equivalent) Yellow 12 filters and Red 25.

Best I could do. Still heavy.

Well done! And much love for SWC!

Thanks! My 500C has a Maxwell screen in it and the last version of the waist level finder with a +2 lens. For me it's the perfect travel camera. With an early 6 element Planar 80mm, it is my go to B&W camera.
