On a lark I sent Fuji Japan a message via their contact page asking them to continue making it, and to continue making film in general. I wonder if I'll get even a form letter back, will post if they do.
Replying to my own post it seems my Japanese isn't too rusty after all, they replied, though I suspect it is a form letter. It mostly just says thanks for using their products, unfortunately they don't sell enough B&W film to keep on producing Neopan 1600 in small batches so they've had to discontinue it, they're very sorry for the inconvenience, 36-rolls are still available until stock run sout, they hope I understand and hope that I will continue to use Fujifilm products.
The sent me links to a survey and a further comment website as well but they are personalized for me so I won't reproduce them here.
