B&H Photo talks about film renaissance in 2017

They only refer to BW film and they omit naming the market.

Color films named in the article:
Kodak Ektachrome
Lomochrome Purple XR
Agfa Photo Vista Plus
Addicted Color Implosion
Impossible Color Film
Fujifilm Instax

B&H Photo is based in Manhattan. All their references appear to be US based, so I suspect their market is US.

I'd also think the slight uptick is partly due to photographers loading up on film when we hear about product d&g. ie- Fuji Acros in 4x5. or crazy demand for Instax. I believe there currently is a bit more interest in film but I wouldn't call it a renaissance.

fwiw, this 'story' also has a whiff of custom content and feels like a stealth ad for B&H. Links to films mention, flip to a B&H page instead of the manufacturer's page. Call me skeptical.

The other films are named, but the stated rise refers to BW.

The problem with all these discussionsn is that in contrast to back then the market is strongly seperated between local and internet sales and between hotspots and province or even between countries.

even if all that is true (probably) what's the downside is more film use and sales?

They can only talk about their sales since they do not have access to other companies internal records.

No, they do not even name their sources, but their wording makes believe it is not from their own knowledge.

Essentially it's the equivalent to an infomercial... with this article, B&H is trying to push their film products. Of course the content is based around the very products B&H offers, with links directing to these products.

By the way, what is that trojan virus lurking on your website front page (www.ArtLiem.com)? It triggered an immediate alert in AVG and page was force-reset.

Chill.

No idea. I haven't managed my website in over 10 years. Shrugs.

It might help the "Film Renaissance" if they were not closed for every Israeli Holiday that was ever printed on a calendar.....

Film photography is probably not the ideal hobby for people who lack at least some degree of patience.

B & H is closed for every Jewish holiday. There are many Israeli holidays that B & H are not closed for.

I would bet that if your employer made you work on Christmas and Easter Sunday, you would be really pissed. You need to learn about multicultural tolerance or you will become a bigot.

I will never forget the first time I went to B&H. I didn't get the whole process and had a bunch of stuff from the darkroom section in my arms. A employee came up, smiled at my Midwestern naivete. His name was Moses, he stood a good 3 inches above me (i'm a bit over 6'1") full beard. He showed me how you to send the stuff up front by the overhead trolley. I wen't around to several departments, back then the used department was upstairs, it was like Candyland. I finally checked out up front, so much fun!.
Iowa, when I was growing up in the 60's, was about a diverse as a box of peppermint Tic Tacs I love NYC, I can't think of more fun place to be.

Last I checked my cousin was working on Israel's Independence Day.

Candyland and the employees know their stuff for the most part. I had to stop visiting because of all the stuff I'd bring home.
