I have read on Kodak Web Site that the Azo RC paper is sell in Mexico. Is it still true ? And how can I buy some boxes ? I live in France and for many reasons, I do not wish to use FB papers. Thanks for your help.

I have not heard that. I guess the way that I would check out the validity of that claim would be to contact Kodak and determine first of all whether this is true and secondly a list of dealers that would be handling the product if true. From that point, if the product exists, it would be a business transaction between yourself and the retailer of the Kodak material.

Thanks Jorge for your proposal. It would be nice if we have a contact from Kodak Mexico. I could order directly from one their resailer or ask a friend in Kodak France to help me to have a box of this paper.

I'd be tempted to try it for the postcard exchange and my routine rollfilm proof sheets, if I could get some.

In some parts of the world I'd imagine that contact sheets are still a regular consumer item, so maybe that has something to do with the demand for Azo RC in Mexico, and perhaps other Carribean, Central, and South American countries that may be serviced by Kodak Mexico.

Ok guys, I will try and get in touch with them and have an answer to you, like shipping to US, sizes, and perhaps samples. If they dont ship to the US, I will be glad to get some for you.

I don't know if this is what it's used for--but there was a time, not too-too long ago, when labs mass produced b&w prints using longroll contact printers like those made by Stoufer. Printers with dozens of switchable, and even movable, lamps for control. I know over in High Point NC, where the Furniture Market has been for, well, since the late 50s, early 60s---there are some huge photo studios there (such as Alderman's--used to be the largest in the world) that shot the home-furnishings catalogs on 8x10 and up sized view cameras. Alot of these studios would shoot b&w and color negs/transp--and print the catalogs by contact with the type & copy stripped in underneath. They had large operations similar to offset printing--only with photo paper instead--and the prints would be trimmed out & the corners rounded & then bound together into catalogs for the showrooms & sellers. For the color stuff--they'd correct the chromes or prints back to the piece of furniture in a viewing box back in their labs...huge operations---doing color "washes"--corrections on chrome film and retouching negs & the like.

So, I imagine if there are still labs using longroll contact printers for say, publicity prints?--a contact speed RC paper would be the thing to use.

fwiw--a few of these studios are still working this way, believe it or not...it's not uncommon for them for to shoot a b&w neg like you would a polaroid--run it through the deeptank to proof the shot & then shoot one sheet of chrome film, for example--run that & break the set....all *hotlights*--big sets like a hollywood production, 20, 30 lights--exposures minutes long.....no light meters being used, old cameras like Deardorfs with Commercial Ektars and Wollensak lenses and a stopwatch to time the shot--the "shutter" might be a box over the lens...

anyways--just a thought.

I understood Michael Smith to say that Kodak was planning on moving Azo production to Mexico. Maybe they already have production for that product there. I can't begin to guess which way Kodak is going to jump next.

I really don't know what I'd use a RC contact paper for. If I am going to the trouble and expenxe of shooting good film and using good developer why would I want to negate the process at the end?

I'd use it for the things I use Ilford MGIV RC for--postcards, quick prints of snapshots (yes, I sometimes take snapshots with 4x5"), and proof sheets from rollfilm.

I did not say that Azo was going to be made in Mexico.

Michael,
I was almost positive that you said something to that effect. I will check recent posts. Irregardless, if I am in error then I apologize.

Well I got a semi response from Kodak (Mexico). They said AZO RC is only distribuited in Mexico and that Kodak Mexico does not ship anything to the US (yeah right!). OTOH they mention that if there was interest for this paper in the US perhaps they could ship to a "distribuitor".

Typical of Kodak, they said that only "distribuitors" here in Mexico can give me prices, so I will call around next week to find out what are the prices for different sizes.

Thanks Jorge for your assistance.
The Kodak answer is not unusual for me. They still produce the paper but do not want to promote it in the US because they market other products.
But as I am not living in USA I could order some box and import them in the Old Europa !

I guess you would have to get your camera store to order it, if it becomes too much a hassle let me know and I can get it for you.
