Hi Delphine,
The Bull is not in Buxton it is where the camp site is about 6 miles south east of Buxton in a place called Hurdlow. There is only one room available the others have been taken by others as far as I know not connected with APUG, not Martin or me. We have not yet agreed on a hotel but it looks as if the two in Buxton are the most suitable. Mark, Richard and Paul are camping at the site of the Bull. The website of the Bull is www.bulliththorn.co,uk if you want to stay there just check the room rate, is it £70 or £140. If any other APUG members have booked B&B at the Bull please say so now.
If we are to follow the same arrangements as before, that is eat together in the evening and generally show prints and spend the evening together, then we need to agree among the six of us who are going, where this is to be otherwise we could end up with two separate groups of three.

Hello Tony,

I just picked up on your post.
If I understand well, three people are camping, and there is only one room with no single occupancy at the bull, is that correct? Also I understand that there is the b&b the Robinsons where Richard will be staying? Could it be that you and jean take the room at the bull, martin finds out about the robinsons, and I go camping? I am fully geared with ultra lightweight camping gear, so it is not a problem for me. I am probably the most flexible of all, i am as happy staying @ hotel/ b&b or camping ; I believe that I have demonstrated my ability to sleeping anywhere. My only bottleneck is transportation as I have not yet made it past page 15 of the theory book.
This way we are all staying at the same spot.

Best, Dee

Dear All

Though I can not commit 100% to this trip as I am awaiting an appointment for surgery, I have booked myself in to a Pub about 10 miles away in the village of Hayfield. This location sits on Kinder rd, which is the main route to Kinder Scout mountain, a wonderful location in itself.

Dead Link Removed

This is a wonderful pub, nice ale, great food and O.K accommodation with a superb english breakfast, complete with home made local marmalade!!!. I know that the location would not be ideal for the group as it is away from the campsite, but it should be no problem for me to travel each day to be with the group. As I write there was three extra ensuite rooms available.

Of course, unfortunately it is all provisional for me, but I really do hope I can make it.

Best Wishes

Stoo

The meeting is now centred on The Bull which seems the best option. Circumstances have arisen which means I will have to give this one a miss so have a good time all and hope for clement weather.

Well then you lot - I guess that's it then. Just four or five of us on our lonesome. I must say what ever happened to the rest of 'em?

I suppose that no-one is up for leading the photo ops in the area. I guess its up to who's left to work it out then. All suggestions welcome - but if I'm on my own then so be it...

I'll start looking at the guide books then.

Would have loved to have attended Mark but I've got a 75th Anniversary Club Dinner that weekend in Somerset. The Peak District is a great location but the weather can be difficult. Having said that, some years ago I did a three day walk around the Peak in mid October and the weather was the best I had ever experienced there.

Wishing you all a great weekend.

Positive thinking, Mark... We like that ! Lol

I am sorry I missed your call the other day, I will call you to discuss final details. Also, I am sure I am going to forget this so I may say it now, could you take a hammer or something for me to hammer down the thingys of my tent, and could you put a toilet roll in the van just in case. Stuart could elaborate I'm sure in great lenght on the subject of toilet rolls.

I am going to get a guide book too and ask around to people who have visited the area at the office. May be, it is the excuse to meet up before, to go through the guides together and chew some fat?

Happy day to all

I have Dave Dutchers book - Peak Light

Dave, lives in the Peak District and the book is dedicated to photos of the Peak District

He has even been thoughtful enough to put the locations of his photographs in the book - as a guide for others.

I was waiting for suggestions from other APUgers as to photographic locations but failing that we can always Daves book as a suggested starting point

Any thoughts?

Should we start a new thread asking for recommended photographic locations?

Delphine - You will be surrounded by rocks, no need for a hammer to drive in tent pegs.
As for TP, I thought you said you were a lightweight camper - Surely you know about single sheet usage :surprised:

I may be tempted to put in an appearance for at least one night - depends whether I've used up all my domestic credit!

Unfortunately I won't be in a position to decide until the week before!

If you're looking for a good location, try Padley Gorge, near Grindleford rail station - a really lovely 'hidden' valley. There's also an old millstone quarry at the top, full of dumped millstones among silver birch trees- beautiful.

Martin, I think the book as a start point sounds good. (Ian) I was aware of the millstone thing - and fully realise that the tripod holes are very deep. But would like to go in any case.

Dee - call me for an early chinwag or get together for ideas etc. Can't hurt to work through some locations etc. This might sound odd but I am going to the Peak district the week before for a college reunion thing (with Norma's college mates) so am hoping to pick up a few hints and tips then as well...

I always carry spare loo rolls - one considers this a must! I also carry a rubber maul/hammer for emergencies! so tent pegs will be a simple thing to sort out.

Barry I will miss you as ever. It won't be the same not having a weather god on our side... Do give the FADU crowd a hello from me in any case. I am other wise engaged the weekend before as I would be joining you all too.

Rob - if you can make the one night - there will be room in the tent (in the spare bed chamber if you want it). And I don't give such invites out lightly as you know! Let me know if you want the space... If so I will pack some extra bacon etc for breakfast!

I have not been to the area before - so am looking forward to it as ever. Looking forward to meeting up with you all as ever.

It was not known by me, I have no prior knowledge of the area.

The one problem you'll have is it's such a wonderful area and there's just too many places to visit, as you and Mark haven't been there you're in for a real treat.

I never found those tripod hole Mark :D

BTW the Mill stones are every where even at the top of the hill, not just in the quarries

Guys, sadly I am going to have to drop out

I will be under going an operation the preceding week and since the recovery time is 6 to 8 weeks even with the most optimistic mind set, I am not going to make it.

I’ll PM Dee & Mark with the suggested locations from Dave Butchers book

I will also be cancelling my reservation for B&B for Fri & Sat at the Bull if anyone is interested

Ill be coming

Hi my name is Adrian otherwise known as Heart&Soul on other groups. I have kindly been invited by Delphine to your Shindig. I am currently awaiting confirmation of my annual leave, but can not see taking Friday of as being a problem.

As for where I'm staying I'm afraid the Bull is way to much for me Ill shall be looking for something a little more modestly priced. But as near as I can to where you guys are staying and it has to be in b&b style. I have only every camped once when I was at school and it's not for me. Just can't do with out my full English ready for me in the morning.

I'm really looking forward to meet you all, always nice to meet others who are into landscape that are not of urban kind.

Regards,
Adrian

Mark

Me too

However, I have been waiting for this Op for over 6 months and don't want to suffer any more delays

I had to miss the Spring Mtg for this and now I am going to miss the Autumn one too.

Hopefully I will be fully recovered and in good shape for the Spring get-together

Sorry guys, just catching up with the forum, being snowed under at the mo.

Hope it all goes well Martin, look at it on the bright side: recovery time=printing time!

Sorry Tony can't make it either.

Adrian, great that you are coming!

Mark, when I can, I am giving you a call. Sorry I did not manage to call back any earlier.

Bye for now,

Delphine
