Can't afford a Jobo, nor one of these nice Heiland TAS film processors (which does exactly what I'm looking for). Is there a cheaper alternative? I've grown tired of shaking a film tank and the sometimes inconsistent results that come with it. I want to be able to load up a tank, stick it in a machine of some kind and forget about it. Advice would be appreciated!

Seriously, you should be able to get a Jobo CPE 2 for a hundred bucks on ebay and I use one of those for all my B&W and C41 film processing. I don't use it at all for prints, as I hate putting paper into drums

Dear dcelfving,

If you are handy and have access to at least a drill press you can put together enough parts from American Science and Surplus (They are up on the NW side of Chicago) for under $40 without temperature control. (That's what I have.) Having said that, let me echo Graham's suggestion. On ebay you can get one with tanks for very little cash. If get a CPE-2 without a lift (not recommended) it can be really cheap. I am saving for a CPP model which is a lot more expensive.

Well, next month we have a special offer (X-Mas) for the Heiland TAS filmprocessor. A bit cheaper but still around US$ 800,00 including one extra memory, I am afraid.

If you like Rodinal, Tanol, PMK, pyro and that kind of developers, it's a more than a perfect solution for easy development of your B&W films. TAS accepts almost all filmtanks (Jobo 1500, 2500, Paterson sys 4, Kindermann).
