Honestly, henrys is outrageous when it comes to their film and chemicals. But I don't think we can blame them, its most likely the suppliers that are price gouging.

If you're looking for some HC110 for cheaper, Argentix.ca sells the legacy pro version of it in 1 pint bottles for $21.99

Having said that I develop in Rodinal exclusively and 500ml costs $15US and gives me 80-85 rolls.

At least you good folks up there in the Far North can still buy it, unlike us poor colonials Down Under since Kodak stopped supplying it some years ago.

Many years ago I picked up a set of darkroom scales from a photo shop in Solo, Indonesia. Raw chemicals can still be had from Vanbar's in Melbourne and Sydney, they had stopped selling them for a fewyears but then mysteriously began stocking them again. Let us thank the analog gods for small favors... I now mix my own D76,Dektol (D72) and Thornton's two bath, and I now have enough raw chems in stock at home to last me for another ten years.

I do miss HC110, tho, and I would happily plunk down A$60 for HC110 any day.

I lived in Toronto in the '70s, and I loved the place, but haven't been back for about 15 years. Overdue for a visit. Are Henry's the one and only photo supplies in that city now?

I bought my bottle of HC-110 last october and paid EUR18 and change. I really hope the prices don't go that high over there, HC-110 is my go-to developer, it's just a fantastic all-rounder... That being said it is so economical I would still buy it at 4 times the current price...

FWIW, it is likely that that $60.00 CDN bottle is more than twice the size of the 16 ounce bottle available "some years ago".

Using Kodak's conservative recommendations, the (now) 1 litre bottle of HC-110 has the capacity to develop at least 160 rolls of film.

HC-110 is 37 bucks Canadian at B&H. That $60 price at Henry's is a rip-off. They know that they have Canadians over a barrel on this one. B&H ships free to Canada on orders over $100, but Henry's knows that B&H doesn't ship HC-110 to Canada.

You may be right about Henry's, but it may also be that Henry's pays their wholesale supplier more than B&H charges retailers.

My local source, Beau Photo, buys some of their stock from retail sources in the USA because, even with the costs arising from importing, those retail prices are less than the wholesale prices up here.

B&H and Adorama and some of the other US sources really distort perceptions about what a "normal" price is.

There might of been more but these are the ones I took notice of. This is quite unforunate and it seems like Henrys raises their prices every minute. Luckily, the ilford chems havent changed in price so ill probably just buy some of those next time.

I don't know how you Cannuck's think or act when some merchant, supplier or retailer is giving you a digital prostrate exam, but this American would make damn well sure he came away with one extra finger that didn't belong to him. I think it's time to send a message to retailers like Henry's and corporations like Kodak. Time for a 100% boycott. Now, I must admit that I have bought several cameras and other odds and ends from Henry's and have been very, very happy, but that's over as of right now. I'm joining arms with my brother's in the North to protest this absolute violation of common sense and fairness. There are some extremely good film developer/fixer/paper developer recipes out there and no excuse to bend over and take this. So, if Henry's is sticking it to my friends north of the boarder I'm going to do all I can to stick it to Henry's. As Gomer Pyle would say, "For shame, for shame, for shame"!

I don't know a lot about Henry's market realities (their base is 5000 km from here and they have no retail presence any closer) but I am on good terms with some of the retailers at our end of the country.
The volumes sold at retail have become so small, and the twin factors of huge currency fluctuations and the role of US internet marketers has become so great, that all normal market forces are totally out of whack.
There is also no volume in the distribution chain to permit economies of scale. The multiple Kodak distributors all tend to cater to narrow markets - one sells film to grocery and convenience stores, another sells supplies to minilabs, another might sell small amounts to camera stores - all of which results in wholesale prices that are often higher than B&H or Adorama retail prices.

With volumes so low, it isn't likely that anyone is making much money, even if the retail prices are high.

The people at my favourite local store make inventory buying decisions one product at a time, and often at minimum order quantities.

I realize what you say above and totally understand "price hikes" within reason and for a good reason, but this sounds way, way out-of-whack with Henry's. I would never entered this thread if "all" retailers in Canada had raised there price within a Loonie or two, but this sounds more like Henry's saying, "If they want it they're going to have to pay for it". For shame, for shame, for shame!

I wrote an email to EIamericas@kodak.com expressing my concern over the sudden large price increases. They told me the canadian distributor is a new company called "Kodak Alaris" and included their website : https://www.kodakalaris.com/

I forwarded my message to Kodak Alaris today and hope to hear back from them. It would seem that 'The Camera Store' and 'Henry's' are simply repsonding to the price increases by this new distributor.

Eastman Kodak have been out of the still film business for years, save and except for the fact that they do contract manufacturing for Kodak Alaris. Eastman Kodak only markets their movie products. Anything else they make that is film related they make for Kodak Alaris, who have the worldwide rights to market those products.
Kodak Alaris is owned by the Kodak UK pension plan. The pension plan set up Kodak Alaris because the pension plan received the rights to market Kodak still film products as part of the Eastman Kodak bankruptcy settlement.
Kodak Alaris don't directly distribute in Canada (or anywhere else, as far as I am aware).
They sell to independent distributors in Canada (and other places). That is who the retailers buy from.
Eastman Kodak is mostly a commercial printing oriented company now.
EDIT: you may want to use profilm@kodakalaris.com as your email for Kodak Alaris. Many of us here have had results from using that contact point.
