Ask a Weston

Interesting to see agreement on EWs photo passion vs that of his sons. It's evident in their photos. I think Penn, for example, was closer to being an EW successor.

Not a bad comparison.

The internet is not for the thin-skinned unfortunately. I constantly have to tap “ignore” to avoid the most toxic people. Why should it be different for a distant relative of a famous photographer?
If one wants the freedom to speak one’s mind without interference, all it takes is the purchase of “RelativeOfFamousPhotographer.com”.
If one wants the audience of an existing community, one has to obey by the conditions and challenges everybody else has to - for better or worse.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. You will find the great majority of the members and posters here are friendly and courteous and are eager to give helpful information as well as to share their work.

If you happen to check out the site again, you will find most all of us appreciate the contributions the Westons have made to the art of photography. If we look hard enough some time and some artist or photographer made an image that has influenced our own work. As is said "great minds think alike" I for one photograph what I like and if someone else likes my image i appreciate it. i readily accept constructive comments. You might recall my entry to your first thread about your book jacket. Had my wife not had a headache I might never have happened on to an exhibition of your grandfather's prints which inspired my fifty year love of and involvement in photography. i did meet your father many years ago in Miami where he had an exhibition and was the juror for a photography organization. I was honored to receive the best of show (a nude) and two honorable mentions (plants).
Hopefully you won't give up on this site.

So good things can come from headaches. I did not think that was possible. Live and learn.

While I don't wish a headache on anyone especially my wife her headache cleared up as we enjoyed the exhibition. Maybe we should change the saying to Learn and Live.

Yes, I have recommended Art's DVD for years. I appear in a short segment, photographing with Brett at Point Lobos.

I find this thread, and much that is written about the Weston's, not always factual. I was fortunate to have known Edward, Brett, Cole and Kim. Their work, all quite different, should be judged for what it is. Take a look at it, while keeping in mind their shared passion and sacrifices for what they have produced.

Best to Kim.

Thanks for this post. And your photography, very inspiring interpretations of subject matters.

I've often wondered about the fourth Weston son - Chandler. Brett and Cole are well-known, and I saw a interview video with them and Neil a while back. But I've never really seen or heard (or been able to find) much of anything about Chandler.

Kim? Merg?
