Great work done and not in a studio.
Every time I see the phrase "environmental portraiture", I think of all of that ugly crap I see all over social media. I clicked on that link ready to cringe. What a pleasantly surprise! That was some very well executed photography with top notch composition!
In the land of Instagram, sometimes you forget what good looks like.
Shooting in an uncontrolled environment makes it much tougher. I think Gregory Heisler worked for Newman.
Newman was a jew and he knew well who Alfred Krupp (not Albert Krup) was and what Krupps Of Essen did, which was why he lit Krupp's face from below on purpose to make him look like Satan.I wonder if Arnold Newman has a high degree of cultural literacy? Does he know about his subjects than an average shooter on Instagram?. For example, his portrait of Albert Krup the industrialist that worked enslaved Jews to death in his German factory. He made him look like a monster.
To be fair, Mr. Newman has assistants helping his shots.
