Just like the prerogative writs and other legal anachronisms that so many US legal systems retain from ~ 250 years ago, while the rest of the world has moved on.
By the way, they are horsehair wigs, and apparently itch like crazy. You won't find them in Canada, and in most UK courts.
But more generally, be careful about getting your legal advice from Photrio. With such radical revolutionaries like Alan proposing massive changes to a legal system that your country has used for ~ 250 years and which evolved for many centuries before that, you could become confused.
A tracing remedy for personalty that defeats legal title to that personalty? What's next, the elimination of private property all together?
🤯

I do not take Alan's non photographic opinions seriously although some of the things he rants about are funny to think that anyone would take seriously.

$180,000 of Leica equipment stolen.

... and here we have a four page thread about what? ... 4 cameras and 5 lenses stolen.

Greed, pure greed. {Moderator's deletion of political content}

Coincidentally I just got called for jury duty in New Jersey. I thought at 77 you're too old. I might fall asleep. Like the judge.

I believe that you can ask to be let off because of your age. IIRC the age limit for mandatory jury duty in NJ is 75.

Just did that. Thanks.

A thread that starts with "Stolen Leicas in San Fran" and morphs into "Tips on how to get out of jury duty in Jersey" should become a case study on how conversations evolve (or is it devolve?) on forums such as this one. 🤓 😁

There's been a lot of that lately. "Will there ever be another photographic movement?" morphed into "Tips on renegotiating your Sirius radio subscription." and "Is there really a strong interest in film photography?" morphed into "How to cheat on your taxes by using cash."

One would think that of all the virtual conversation spots on this big web of ours a photography forum would be the one in which people would be able to keep their focus on the subject... 🙂

It will come with a receipt from a dealer dated Nov 2022 with my name on it.

Huss, do you mean you bought two lenses and were heading in to pick them up when all this went down? I'm so sorry.

It's always been the case to some extent. How many times has something like "I'm looking for a 28mm lens for my XYZ camera and I want to know the differences between these two options..." turned into "You should buy a Hasselblad?"

One would think that people interested in photography could focus! 👁️

But that's how conversations work. It makes discussions interesting. You go off on a tangent and then circle around and come back

He was quoting the Craigslist ad. If the seller has a receipt for the lens with his name on it, then it can't be one of the stolen items.

What is really noteble is the quality of those surveillance cameras considering it is a high end store in the tech capital of the world.

...anyone who buys known stolen stuff is as bad as the thieves...

I think this is more about what happens when you buy stolen goods unknowingly. Who gets stuck with the loss. I'd assume the buyer has to give back the goods and the thief and/or fence has to pay a fine and/or face jail time if found

No problem focusing when there is something worth focusing on. 😎

Well you focus better than most around here. If their brains were not on a lease, their heads would wonder off.

Hey, watch it...I resemble that remark...my head is on a quick release sorely under-rated for the weight.

PS...not bragging about the amount of brains in there...a bit dense, though. My desktop computer keeps telling me my keyboard batteries are low. How in the hell does my computer know I keep the batteries in the bottom drawer??!!!! Spooky stuff.

Well, tracker chips could hypothetically be factory installed in cameras, just like they can be optionally had for things like jackhammers which seem to routinely walk off the job and get sold on the street. Or do what they sometimes do for cars in South Africa, and if a code isn't entered first, the Leica explodes when the shutter is pressed.
