Aristotelis Grammatikakis, rest in peace.

Sad news. I'm pretty sure I speak for everyone who knew him here in offering condolences.

It seems he hasn't been posting for a couple of years here. The last we heard he was enjoying himself in Shanghai and had lots of creative irons in the fire.

This has certainly taken me by surprise. He was a regular and valued contributor here for several years although as someone has said it must be a while since I had seen anything from him.Do anyone know what the cause of death was?

He was still just quite a young man as far as I knew.

During the last two years he was battling against a brain tumor, he had surgery, but part of it couldn't be removed, and the further treatment as you know is pretty aggressive. He had his mobility reduced up to the point of not being able to read, write, or walk. I'm not sure if this was the ultimate cause, but if not, surely it's related.

Peace to Ari and his family. I remember him very fondly, and had many good conversations with him on Facebook.

I will miss him, for sure, but we should also think about and remember all of the good things he contributed here and elsewhere.
 
I'm shocked. So young! This just sucks.

I saw him in Beijing in 2009, by pure coincidence. I was wondering about his silence. Thought that he was struggling making a living from photography, sth he quite often complained about.
 
This is heartbreaking. He was so full of passion and fire, as all the great Greek gods are. You will be missed, my friend.

I'm very sad to hear this news my sincere condolences to his family what a terribly young age to die.
 
He was one of my favorite people on here. I loved his spirit and his out-there-ness. I can only imagine how horrible it must have been for him to go through that, given how active he had been in his early days on here (mountain biking, dancing, photojournalism). He will be sorely missed.
 
I'll remember you Ari, as the guy with the Hasselblad and the beautiful photographs and how proud you seemed of the darkroom you built. I was looking forward to your posts, to see what was up - because there was always something up - like a jammed camera body or air bubbles on the developed film or whatever things you had going on.

You contributed guts and spirit, which I will forever miss. May you fare well, wherever you are going now. Hats off, man!

Thanks for the info. He was always someone who made me say: I wonder what Ari has to say today and then look forward to reading what it was
