hi everyone,

shot my first roll at ei50 developed it in pyrocat hd ( metol ). straight prints/test strips looked underexposed so i rated it at ei25 and it doesn't look any better. also tried it in buetler in two bath mode and still underexposed! i know its not my meter, camera etc because i'm also acros through it and there are no problems there. does anyone else concur or have different ( better ) experiences with this film?

thanks. gonzalo

Just processed 2 rolls shot on Sunday @ 50 EI 11 mins in Pyrocat HD 1+1+100 20°C (actually 25°C 7:50mins) with no problems at all 24 perfect negatives.

Not sure why you think think there's under exposure, you seem to be saying test prints, that has little to do with negatives.

Let us see a negative

I did some snap shots with it and seems to be fine at box speed in FG7. Are you sure they are underexposed rather than underdeveloped?

Dear Gonzalo,

Post your development time and temperatures as well. I'm sure someone out there has used this film and developer combination.

When I tested the Arista.edu 100 I got somewhere between 12 and 25 for an EI. It gives good results, I'm going to buy some more. I use T-max developer which may give an insignificant 1/6 to 1/3 of a stop over Rodinal when I tested it. I don't know about Pyro, but try a lower EI if they still are underxposed at EI 25.

I would not call it "pulling" its just exposing it for what it is (a really slow film)

I don't have a curve of my Arista.edu 100 available for upload, but I do have a curve for the Arista.edu 400 that shows it is quit a bit slower than a 'name brand' 400 film.

I don't know. I think exposure indexes are very personal. I am currently forced to use the Arista.edu ultra 100 and 400 for financial reasons. I overexpose up to one stop depending on lighting, and process in replenished Xtol with full shadow detail.
The beauty of this film is that it responds to exposure change beautifully and gives different results based on exposure. It also reacts very readily to processing changes, taking both minus and plus development nicely.
The only two poor qualities I can give it is terrible reciprocity characteristics and a super curly film base. The rest is fine by me.

hmmm. my results seem to concur with ic racer's. by straight prints i meant that i did a test strip for max black without loss of shadow detail. İan, your using pyrocat hd at 1:1:100 which is meant to do a little better than box speed and your ei is 50... thanks for all the responses everyone. just wanted a reality check.
