I want to get that above (or similar replacement for kodalith)... but they won't ship it unless I order least 25$ worth of stuff... but I don't want 25$ worth of stuff, I just want that.

Any other place have it and doesn't have a minimum order limit?

And don't be a smarta** and tell me to just order more, I can only afford that one box plus shipping right now.

Arista is a Freestyle in house brand.

You could see if some body wants to combine the order.

BTW IIRC the 4x5 is really 4x5. I think they have a version cut to fit 4x5 film holders. At least I remember something like that.

Not sure what you mean, because my box of Kodalith Type III is really 4x5 too, and goes into my film holders, has no notch codes or anything like that.

Needless to say I'm a lil confused because the sheet film is supposed to be literally the size it's cut to, not say its 4x5 and really smaller, its the exposed area of film that may be smaller than the actual sheet size. Cuz in the past 4x5, 5x7, 8x10 has always measured out to be exactly the same to me.

Out of curiousity, why is it that all the other brands, kodak, ilford, effke etc, just simply say 4x5 ?

I'm dreadfully confused, no where on google or even this site even mentions the 3.9x4.9 size for the arista, all I see is in their catalog it says "fits 4x5 film holders" but why wouldn't 4x5, since all the other films on the market are 4x5.

Sheet film isn't really the listed size. It's a touch smaller. We aren't talking a big difference but it's smaller.

Now both film and holders have a +/-. You remember the oversized 8x10 film J&C had a few years back? The film fit half my holders just fine even if it was cut a little bigger.

My understanding is plates used to be the exact size but film needed to be made smaller for some reason.

Hrm I took one of my holders and a 4x6 peice of paper ( which I know for sure is 4" , and its just a fuzz too big) , I guess Arista decided to be dead accurate when listing them, or making them.

APSH film

"Give www.valleylitho.com a look. They are nearby.
I saw no mention of minimum. A check around your home
town may turn up something. Dan"

I down loaded there catalog. Lots of stuff. Who makes their paper. I could not tell from the picture? Not bad price.

karl

they thing about the sheet film sizes is that it was the size of the PLATE, not the film.
the size of the dry plate was actually the sizes we call sheet film now ( 4x5 &C )

when people started to use film, they first put one of those sheet film adapter-thingys in their plate holder,
it reduced the inside of the holder to fit the film by about 1/32" or so ...
when film holder companies started to make film holders, not plate holders,
the film holder companies made holders to go along with what was already being sold as sheet film sizes ...

so even today, film companies "have an understanding" that the actual sizes of film is a bit smaller than the holder/septum ... and unfortunately when you ask a place to custom cut film for you
( like photowarehouse used to do )

if you don't say " cut the film to fit film holders" they will cut the film to the exact 4x5 &C instead of a bit smaller ...

I have used a lot of this film. I shoot it at iso 5 and soup in rodinal 1:150. Results are great. I buy 100 sheets of 5X7, which I cut into 100 4X5 and 200 2X3. The 2X3 are a little short, but work just fine in the film holders. I've never known freestyle to have a minimum order.

Well put something in your shoping cart under 25$ then look at the notice when you goto checkout about how they don't ship orders under 25$.

But anyways friend of mine online messaged me because he needed to get some rodinal and he was ever so under the min order, but shipping was about the same with the combined order, so I went ahead and goth both our desires ordered from them.

now if 999 more people bought the same kinda stuff, maybe it'll encourage them to keep making it .
