The title pretty much says it all. I'm wondering if there are any film photography magazines (in English) left in print. I know there is Looking Glass (which I subscribed to already) but I'm wondering about hard copies not digital.

B&W and View Camera both include digital stuff any more. I stopped subscribing when they defiled their pages with that stuff.
Same with Lenswork. It's still worth taking a look at.

There've been a couple of startups but seem to have croaked after two or three issues. Emulsion and.....................?

Somewhere in the dark recesses of my mind I seem to remember one still floating around. Just out of reach. That's going to be a 2AM coming to mind thing.

Not many have survived since the advent of internet the magazine and newspaper and periodical industry sales figures have gone down the toilet and the publishers are struggling to survive, photography websites and YouTube have all but replaced them, people can get the information they need free on-line.

I get B&W and have thought about View Camera. I'll have a look at lens work. Thanks.

The internet is great but I much prefer to hold a book or magazine in my hand than look at a computer screen to read. My wife bought me a Nook for Christmas a couple years ago and I tried it but it wasn't for me. Now it sits in a drawer unused and collecting dust. Just my opinion.

Someone who is a member here (laurie campbell, IIRC?) has started a subscription digital mag that she says she hopes becomes available in print after the first year. But it only started some months ago, and I don't know if she still has hopes for that. I would subscribe to it; I will not subscribe to a digital mag

I bought a subscription the first month. I may not like looking at magazines on the web but it's better than nothing. Oh and it's a very nice webzine.

It is called "Looking Glass" magazine, and it is quite good - and all analogue based. The email anouncing that the third edition is up arrived in my Inbox today.

I've been taking View Camera for some years now. Everytime that I consider letting my subscription lapse, they will come out with an issue containing an article or two that makes the price of the year's subscription worth while. As to film and paper, I learned about an Adox paper in Ansco 130 there. If you are trying to stay in business by selling magazines of interest to people using LF and ULF equipment you probably need some subscription money from the digital folks also.......Regards

What you prefer and what is commercially available are two different things the publishing industry worldwide is suffering a huge reduction in sales and consequently photographic magazines especially film photographic ones have almost disappeared.

They haven't "almost" disappeared. Print magazines for film photography have disappeared.

I may be deluded but I still think there is a market for one. If companies like Ilford can stay afloat seems like a magazine could too.

I currently subscribe to LensWork, B&W and View Camera. I don't subscribe because they are strictly devoted to film work. I subscribe because they are devoted to amazing photography. I need a fix every now and again that doesn't come on a computer screen.

Not expecting. Just hoping. I don't mind if a magizine has digital related articles but I get tired of reading how many megapixels were used and even worse I get tired of Photoshop related articles. They just don't interest me.

Thanks for the heads-up, Matt - I must have missed the original announcement. I've just subscribed - $20 p.a. really isn't that much to support a good cause like this - and am thoroughly enjoying issue #3. And in response to Sirius Glass, the content certainly is interesting. It's art photography.

I believe the economics of manufacturing monochrome film and magazine publishing are very different.

I wouldn't know. But I looked through a recent Writer's Market and the first few pages of magazine listings had quite a few with under 25,000 circulation and at least a half dozen under 10,000, some as low as 2000. There are hundreds more pages of listings. Not knowing anything about the particulars of magazine publishing it is still clear that many magazines with small circulations manage it somehow. $20 is a pretty low subscription rate, but $20 x 10,000 people is a lot of money. So is $40 X 5000, and that's still not an unreasonable rate. Would $200,000 year be enough for printing equipment/expenses and a couple full-time or several part-time salaries?

Check out this magazine I found at the Grand Rapids antique show called 'Camera Craft'. It's a great magazine jam packed with interesting articles and classic vintage ads. Too bad they don't make 'em like this anymore.

I stopped getting UK B&W after Ms McWhinnie took flight. The digital flooded in and almost completely squeezed out any traditional related material making it unworthy for me. Lenswork was very good for imagery, especially if you subscribed the accompanying DVDs as well. Haven't had that for a few years either. View Camera is pretty decent. Always seemed to be. But with my objections to the tardiness of delivery a few years ago I would think Steve would be happy if I never subscribed to that magazine for the rest of my life.

I wish someone could make a run at something like I was with Creative Image Maker before I got sidelined from that. And I honestly do not see me picking it back up again. It took a lot of time to put it together on a monthly basis for electronic issues. I was going with quarterly print issues about the time I got burned out on it.

From one of the earlier contributors. You are welcome, Andrew. Just wish I could pick it up again. But, man, that was a lot of work.

Dead Link Removed has gone from high quality paper to every other month online. They say they have converted many old paper issuse for online reading. I enjoyed this when it was in paper. I haven't seen it online. I use a notebook, but my wife has a 27" IMac. I think I"ll give it a look.
