I don't have to work for a newspaper to see bias. That's ludicrous. I can read.

Your literacy isn't the issue. Your media literacy is.

...Because generally speaking, you won't find great art in a photojournalism. ...

I respectfully disagree. At its best, photojournalism (or documentary photography) is both aesthetically beautiful and taps directly into shared experience, values and thoughts...like art does.

"I don't know anything about art but I know what I like " ...

this thread has degenerated into "left" Vs "right" and we do know something about the demographics (education, travel experience, attitude toward different race, choice of residential area etc).

I have to agree with Colin. In my experience, 'fine art' is applied to such a vast range of work (the movie "The Square" captures this quite nicely) that excluding photojournalism is untenable.

Yes, Alex Soth of course. But is he film or digital? BTW, I'm a fine art photographer and like to spend some time here. I DO use FILM euiptment, after all.

OK, I'll say it another way.

I don't need to work in photojournalism to recognize bias just like I don't have to be a car mechanic to recognize a bad repair.

Except that what routinely happens in our social media age is that the term "bias" is used to label "commentary that disagrees with my preconceived opinions."

I'm not concerned with how folks misuse the term, I'm objecting to the idea that unless one works IN the business they cannot recognize error emanating FROM the business.

YES. Entire "presidential" campaigns have worked intensely to prejudice ignorant public against media that disagree. Same as in Soviet Union...and Russia...and Iran...and Syria...and dare I say USA?

After all of the times CNN and others have gotten rightly called out for lying it's insane that anyone would make this comment.
