I recent got a Kostiner archival print washer to save water in my darkroom. With my told tumbling Arkay print washer, if I put in an unwashed print in the washer full of hypo-free prints, I'd have to wash the whole batch again. With my archival print washer with it's compartments is it ok to put in an unwashed print with already clean prints if its in a separate slot and not have to rewash the whole batch?

Thanks in advance!

I have a Zone VI print washer with compartments which is probably similar. Although each print is in a compartment there is only one drain so I assume the water mixes. What I do is to fill the washer and turn off the water until my printing session is over and then have the water running for the full wash cycle.

There is, or more likely was, one that supposedly allowed that. But, I don't remember the brand. I think the Kostiner is similar to most in that the water is common to all the slots so, so mixing partially washed and unwashed prints wouldn't be a good idea.

I put my prints in to a holding bath of water, until I am ready to load up the print washer, so they all go in at once.

I suggest to rinse your prints and put them into a holding bath until you can wash them altogether, otherwise, you wil contaminate already washed prints and have to start over:wink:
