hey,

So aluminium and dibond is out off my price range at the moment. KAPA is probably not stiff enough, though I haven’t tried yet because of the ridiculous stigma attached to it.

Anyone know of any other archival mounts that are cheaper than aluminium? I’ve heard some wood boards are? Even some composites?

You aren't really telling us what you want and how you want to display it. I assume that since you are talking about aluminum and dibond you want the print to be displayed without framing it?

Sorry, when using aluminium i would either frame or just hang on the well as is, so I want to do the same. If the mounting material doesn’t look good from the side then I’d frame.

Something wrong with 4-ply (or even 8-ply) mat board?

Maybe not! I don’t have any experience with anything other than aluminium really. Will it warp with a 20” print on it? And I guess I’d have to dry mount then?

I would mount the print on 1/8" archival foam board using hinges and corners rather than dry mounting, add a 4-ply archival windowed over mat, and frame it in a Neilsen metal frame. It is a simple and inexpensive, but elegant, way to go. Don't know if that's the look you are going for though. Too traditional?

Thanks! I’ll try source the materials here in Norway

Mount it on glass in the same fashion as you would for aluminium; is glass cheap enough?

I was thinking about that actually, is it not popular because of weight and breakability? How would you hang it? Frame it as usual backing board? Or would you be able to add some sort of French cleat somehow?

have you considered aluminum poster rails?

No i hadn’t! I’ve never seen baryta hung up like that. How does it look? Do they have enough weight to keep the print relatively flat? I’d imagine it’s not too aesthetically dissimilar to hanging up with bulldog clips.
