Wirelessly posted (Samsung 2700: SAMSUNG-B2700/XBIB2 SHP/VPP/R5 NetFront/3.4 SMM-MMS/1.2.0 profile/MIDP-2.0 configuration/CLDC-1.1)

This goes to bit OT, but i was fan of APX25 at 120 size until the end of agfa bw films.

Now, many years later i still miss the tonality thau APX25 gave with rodinal 1+100.

Now I am looking for a film with similar charasteric for 120 and 4x5.

Any good suggestions?

Efke 25 is a film I really liked, but it's plagued with QC problems; at least the 10-20 rolls I shot. I got some great looking negs in Rodinal and Pyrocat HD, but you have to take 2-3 shots of each photo to make sure you get one frame that is without problems.

Ilford makes Pan-F which is an ISO 50 film. The QC at Ilford is great and this film is great, although it may take you several rolls to get your EI and processing routine set.

+1 for Pan-F.

I get great results in Rodinal 1:50. Ilford's quality-control is indeed first rate.

The thing with Pan-F and other similar style films is that while they may also deliver fine grain, they are dissimilar on one distinct quality of the entire APX line of films: TONALITY.

Thats true Clayne, the tonality of APX-serie, especially APX-25 was so beautiful!
It is something that lacks from the films I have used after the end of APX era (Panf+, delta, acros, adox pan25 (aka rollei pan 25)). Efke kb/R/pl 25 I haven't tested, nor the adox CHS 25 Art.

It actually wasn't so long ago that it was on the shelf in sheets. At least till 1985. If you still had a box with that kind of dating I would think it might still be good. If I remember right the APX25 notch was just one half moon.

Not that long ago? That's 25 years! Time flies, doesn't it?

Thank you for pointing out that I am an old fart. (there was a url link here which no longer exists) But 25 years is at least not an impossibly long time for this kind of slow film properly stored.

The previously mentioned Panatomic X I had on ebay, by the way, from the same era sold yesterday at 14.50 a roll !!! Apparently some film gets better with age or at least more valuable.

Hey now how come my little smiley face I tried to insert for the first time ever didn't work?

Well, you know, I'm old enough too, to think that 25 years isn't such a long time.
