Hi All!
Well, the new Hassy & I are about to embark on a few experiments. I bought a couple rolls of 120 film and we are ready to rock!

One of the films I bought I have never used before (Agfa's APX 100) so I'm a little curious about it. I checked through the gallery hoping to find some development times in Rodinal, but I saw a lot of "APX 100 in Rodinal 1:50" but no times! All the stuff on the Massive Developer site is oddly cryptic... like "new" vs. "Original" and things like 1:50 shot at ASA 160 or some such nonsense. I checked AgfaPhoto's website (which was obviously designed by someone who is deranged  ) to no avail.

So, here I am, back in the cozy arms of people who actually know something!
TIA for your help! :D

APX 100 is my favorite film, and what I use most. I think you will love it too. My "main time" I use for APX100 in Rodinal 1:50 is 17:30min. Agitation for me is first 30 seconds and 5-10 seconds every 30 seconds thereafter. And off the top of my head, I think when I use 1:25 I go for either 8:30 or 9:30 (it happens to be whatever the time on the side of the bottle of Rodinal is, plus 30 seconds). And I don't use 1:100 often, so I don't have a "commited" time for that. Hope this helps. Good luck.

1+25 8 @ 68 / 100asa

1+50 17 @ 68 / 125asa

1+100 15 @ 68 / 64asa

1+100 20 @ 68 / 100asa

I've been using 1+25 8@68 100asa with great success. I have also done 1+50 for 13@68 100asa with just as nice negs.

good luck. Post some samples.

Thanks for the info!
Between the box (1:25 for 8min shot @ ISO/ASA100) and the Massive Developer chart (1:25 for 8 min shot at ISO?ASA125) I was a wee bit concerned about which was right.
I saw that a number of people posting shots in the gallery used the Rodinal Apx100 combination, but no times were listed, and their results looked really good (yours were among them, david!).
So thanks again and I will post when I shoot the APX roll.

Another vote for 8 minutes at 1:25 at 20 C (68F).
Hey, Jeanette, you'll have to change your "shooter status" from 35mm to MF!

There is no "right", only lots of people with different preferences. None of them are "right", but at least none of them are totally wrong!

1+50 13min @20C gives excellent negatives for condensor enlargers.
I find the AGFA times way too long....

16 minutes in my favourite. BWGirl, I'm sorry to post yet another personal time as it doesn't help you to get a straight answer...

Janet,

it's all personal preference, but I actually expose APX100 @ EI 50, and then develop in Rodinal 1+50 for 8 minutes. Why do I overexpose one stop? I like the look of it, and I thought I'd throw you that option as well. It will, if nothing else, reduce your developing time. I find it extremely tedious to develop film for 15-17 minutes at N.

I have also heard people say that underexposed 2 stops, APX100 will look similar to APX400 at N. I don't know about that, but it indicates that this film has tremendous latitude, and that if anything encourages experiments.

Good luck! I think you'll like the APX100, it's a wonderful film.
