I have finished building the new site Dead Link Removed and we are ready to start taking onboard websites.

APUGHOSTING.ORG allows our members to host their websites on the apug.org server. It's a win-win situation, your site lives on our server helping us to offset operating costs.

Just keep in mind our target audience would be smaller and more static sites. If you need a larger package or a lot of handholding with your site's development I can suggest other hosts -our provider realwebhost.net or our member satinsnow (I know people that are happy hosting with Dave's hosting company so PM him).

If you have any questions feel free to post them here. Thanks!

Cool! I just signed up.

yup, pretty much offers what the other isp's have which is a linux based system running cpanel (a great tool for managing your site)

I'll consider it right now!

Will you be providing a mail server or will we need to use our ISP for out going mail? In any event I will move mrcallow.com. If you provide a mail server I will look at migrating my other clients.

Sean, what about mod_perl? Is that available? Would we have control of our own web server, ie our stuff runs on a back-end proxy, which we control? I currently host my own server, but if I can save money and move to another environment, I may do it.

Can I place digital pictures taken with a digital camera on your digital server or is the forum guideline of analog the accepted practice?... Sorry, I just had to ask.

Sean, I've been wanting to get my own work online and give myself a rambling area (i.e. blog) for when I need to get things out of my head and I feel I should force this upon the rest of the world

I won't have time to set anything up until this semester is over so I will sign up in May.

Well I've signed up. Thanks Sean! Please let me know when I can transfer my stuff and go to work on it.

Sean, What sort of Spam filter are you using with the email and do you offer mail forwarding?

Cheers,

James
the spam filter that comes with cpanel, it's called spam assasin, yes you can setup mail forwards too

A follow up with the spam stuff. If they are using Linux and Cpanel, they are probably using Spamassasin and some type of RBL. I've installed and configured both in a corporate settings and barely any spam get's through.

I think I will join. Seems very cheap. Are you leaving money on the table, Sean?
it's a small package plan so the price is competitive with other hosts. I'm surely not going to get rich from it but it'll help offset a few costs..

Hi Sean:

Is this effort of hosting a pre-cursor to downsizing, restricting or eliminating the Gallery?

Thanks.

Not at all. The Gallery will remain the way it is. I am very happy with the current gallery being subscriber only. It keeps it from getting out of hand and keeps the server resource from getting abused. If hosting starts to impact the server, then no more accounts will be added. We'll either create a waiting list for new hosting accounts or acquire another dedicated server to host the accounts. Hope that answers your question, thanks

Sean,
Can you recommend anyone for 2gb of webspace for photos, high bandwidth not needed?
Fintan

Dead Link Removed (They house the apug server)

Sean,

Are there any limits on the email forwarders allowed? Do I need to be an APUG subscriber first?

Peter

Hi, you do not need to be a subscriber. I am not aware of a limit on forwards, what are you seeking to accomplish? Thanks, Sean
