Sounds like a thoroughly enjoyable event. I particularly like the ale part. I think discussing prints is a pretty fine idea actually as it's not very often that you get to see proper silver prints these days so it's hard to judge what's a well printed print (regardless of the quality of the picture) if you're not used to seeing them. Magazines and screen prints simply don't cut the mustard. This was one of the biggest reasons that I signed up for a couple of the print exchanges. Oh, did I mention I quite like the ale idea in Frank's post

Three weeks to the start of the Gathering!

Does anyone have any preferences as to what locations we visit? Having a shortlist might be a good idea...

I did a lot of my courting around Symonds Yat over 30 years ago and seem to remember there was a rocking stone high on the hill opposite the hotel by the river side that afforded stunning views over the valley cannot remember exactly how we got there but remember we got the car pritty close.

Well I remember lots of Blackthorn Dry cider, the rest I will stay mute on for fear the grand kids will get to read this. Age brings a vaneer of respectability that is very fragile.

Ive just printed off the directions to the hotel, seemed like a good idea because Im quite capable of jumping into our car and roaring off, and then finding that I havent got the address with me.

I've just spent the afternoon in the darkroom knocking out my meagre offerings for the Gathering. Here's hoping they dry down nicely!

Ross seems to be on the edge of a low detail patch on Google Earth, but MS Live Search gives a bit more resolution. Still looking for locations, though...

Any more suggestions?

Sorry people but the great British public need me that week-end so you'll have to count me out, again. Honest Frank it's it's not you, really, honest it's not!!!!!!!! The good news is that I've just had a week in the Seychelles and before you all turn green with envy I was working. Pictures will be posted.

I dont know the area at all, so will have to rely on others for good places to go, but the company and opportunity to talk photography all weekend promises it to be a good one. I'll be coming on my own now though - our dog sitter has let us down so my wife will have to stay home to look after the dog.

If this morning was one of his practice runs then he's definitely getting his eye in!

I'm going to start another thread to request location suggestions. The Ross area is utterly gorgeous, but it would be good if we could make best use of our time rather than driving around at random.

Stop fretting, as a fall-back subject option, assuming nothing considered worthy enough for you to point your lens at can be found, I shall volunteer to pose on the river bank, in my birthday suit at 10am on the Sunday morning. Now if that doesnt stop you worrying about subject matter nothing will.

I've been away from home a couple of times in the last fortnight, so I have missed the conversation here. I hope the weather I order has not arrived too early? I don't know the area too well but even the Brecons are within an hour or so of the Hotel.

Following the current line of thought - subject matter, that is - with some trepidation - if anyone likes the idea (no Dave, not your Sunday one...) I have previously spent a pleasant time on the Neadd river. Powerful (if difficult) water...falls or river generally, with salmon trout..
