At this rate BD I think you'll have a job remembering the weekend at all! :D

John - I appreciate your point. However, it may be best to finalise the area and venue and find a few dates when the most people can attend before going into detailed research. (Just my opinion.)

Just a quick thing - I am hoping
it's not 12-14th October as this is the same date as another meeting I am hoping to go to...

It's a bit early to start picking dates: we need a location first, and there's no need to rush that either...

2005
  • Spring: Cumbria (N.W)
  • Autumn: Wiltshire (S)
2006
  • Spring: Yorkshire Dales (N)
  • Autumn: East Anglia (E)
2007
  • Spring: Ross-on-Wye (W)

So the NE, SE or SW remain unsullied... (along with Scotland and welsh Wales of course)...

Cheers, Bob.

I've got a brand new combine harvester

What is 'Black Dog talking about? I really must respond to his slur that there's no good real ale in the West. Does he not know that there are no less than 42 breweries in Devon alone? Has he ever sampled Otter Ale, Princetowns's Jail Ale, Big Sheep's Shepherds Ruin or Country Bumpkin? In Cornwall has he imbibed Sharps Doom Bar Bitter or Skinners Cornish Knocker Ale? Come West, young lad and be a man! John Stredwick

Actually I'm a zider drinker:tongue:  :D .........and as Minor White said Spirit always stands still long enough for the photographer It has chosen:wink:  .So let's get a few Britneys down our Gregorys!:D

I am not proposing this should be the venue for the next UK apug gathering but I'd like to throw it in for future consideration...

I have been looking at the Lleyn Penisula in North Wales. It looks an interesting place photographically, close to mountains, beaches and Anglesey. It has some industrial past with Manganese mining.

Its bit off the beaten track I know, but may be worth the effort? Has anyone visited here? Probably better earlier in the Year? Thoughts?

I've been to Lleyn, but that was many years ago. Can't remember much about the area either: I arrived there from Beddgelert in Snowdonia, and ale took care of the rest of my attention span.

I was there a few years ago in early summer IIRC (well, about 15 years ago...). Only went for some walking and never strayed far from the coast. Very wild shore line I recall: very high cliffs with a vertical drop into the sea interspersed with wide sandy beaches. Took ages to get there as the roads were narrow and winding (but then, they all are in north and mid Wales). Took about 2 hours or more from the Welsh borders but travelling through some pretty villages and towns. Strong local Polish community for some reason (possibly related to WWII RAF stations, but I'm not sure).

Cheers, Bob.

The ale can have a similar effect at apug gatherings as well!

I don't remember that happening!
Remember what?:surprised:

I just remembered another thing, though...

The local girls were extremely shy - or maybe they just weren't used to 6'4" Norwegian students?

Autumn Gathering

I'd be happy to go to Kent. My outlaws live there so I have probably shot more rolls there than any other county. That said I,m sure I'd benefit from having a guide like Leon around. So many locations to choose from as well as a great variety. Very different scenery to the Wye Valley so that would make a change from the spring gathering.

Sadly I discovered APUG too late to get organised to go to the Spring gathering but feel that I missed out so apart from work I should have no excuse this time.

To be honest just about any venue in the South would be good for me but I start to panic if I go too far north.
Regards
N:smile:

My offer as guide still stands if Kent is the chosen place

I for one need to organise my weekends since my Autumn dairy is filling up; honest.

Is it possible to arrange a poll for venues and dates?

As a Kentish Man I have a certain preference for Devon, but could be persuaded to cross the Medway if the reward is high enough.

Are there any other offers of organisation available?

I am still OK for a Devon/Cornwall get-together if that's what friends would like. John Stredwick

I've posted a 10 day poll at (there was a url link here which no longer exists) Multiple votes are allowed. Choices are public.

Please vote only if you intend to attend!

Thanks,

Frank

Poll...

Count me in - I enjoyed the Spring version hugely, I have cast my little votes. I also look forward to going wherever it is... I have to agree with Dave though - I could do with knowing when it might be, so I can organise calendars, pony and traps etc.

I'm with Dave & Mark's views on the dates, too - voted, need to know whether I can actually make it!

OK, better get the dates started then...

Assuming 2nd week Sept at the earliest and the end of October as the latest, we have:

Sept 7-9
Sept 14-16
Sept 21-23
Sept 28-30
Oct 5-7
Oct 12-14
Oct 19-21 (Start of school half-term)
Oct 26-28 (End of school half-term)
Nov 2-4 (thought I'd throw that one in to allow for global warming...)

Trouble with polls for this is that they don't allow for people changing their minds as circumstances change, so probably best to just pipe up here...

I doubt half-term hols will make much difference in autumn, so probably not really an issue.

As per, I can probably fit myself around any dates at this stage.

Cheers, Bob.

October would be better than September for me (work tends to get a bit busy in September for some reason - can't think why!).
