Any news about app?

I can use the forum perfectly fine from my phone using Chrome browser; i don't see the need for an app.

As a software engineer, I sincerely hate when apps are released for things that can be done using just the browser, without the need for installing anything.

I also use Chrome but apps are usually more comfortable. Have you ever use Tapatalk? Is very nice to have all forums, pm's, notifications in one app. This forum works with Tapatalk some time ago and for me that was better.

I've given up on the idea. It was useful to have access via tapatalk when I was active on a couple of other forums, but since I changed devices and dropped the other forums, browser access works well enough.
Even if an app ever does appear, i doubt I'll bother with it.

You know, i hate, with a passion, whenever i open a forum and get a stupid popup asking me to open the damn forum using Tapatalk.

I don't want to use it because i want to keep installed apps to a minimum. Each app potentially installs more annoying stuff like background processes (that increase power consumption) and also each app means more bandwidth wasted on software updates.

I've been waiting for over a year. O miss being able to use tapatalk. An app was far more usefull than a browser and my lack of activity here shows. I doubt if I will renew.

The forum used to use Tapatalk, the members had a "grass is greener" thing here I think.

The idea of an app is not dead, it's just with new major developments as stated here:
(there was a url link here which no longer exists)
That's where all the resource is for now. The good news is the new development is going to have a serious focus on responsive design changes so it fits all screen sizes. Initially a custom mobile skin to hold us over while app options are put into place.

It seems like a lot of work when many of us were happy with tapatalk. Another year to go? A far cry from a couple of months a year ago.

The company you mention are involved in some extremely sketchy stuff and can't be trusted (stealing data and using it to generate ad revenue etc), that's why many larger boards dropped them (well the ones who care about their database and customer data not being exploited). The dedicated app developers seem to have gone AWOL. I'll see if their project is still dead, it looked promising.

You can follow the developer of the app here. They have said more than once it's nearly finished so who knows: https://xenforo.com/community/threads/native-xenforo-app-release-details.119853/page-15

When using APUG from the mobile browser is there anything overly irritating that we can fix for now?

Thanks

The site works ok on a mobile browser, I really liked the convenience of auto login, and the ability to just click an app icon to see the site. though I guess i could just make a bookmark on a launch button. I clicked on that xenforo link, seems a lot of people have been waiting as well for the app to materialize too. Well anyway, thanks for replying so quickly!

Obviously I don't know what sort of mobile device you are using, but on my Android 'phone, using Opera Mini browser, I simply login and tick the "keep me logged in box" and it keeps me logged in; plus I seem to be able to place a bookmark/shortcut to APUG on the home screen.
Of course, ymmv, as I believe they say

I've done the same with my iphone, APUG is bookmarked in safari. The screen is a little crowded, but there is a lot of stuff to fit in, overall, I think the mobile interface works pretty well.

One thing I can say for sure is this is not an active project. I write android and ios code and 6 months from scratch would have been the outside..... I'm not holding my breath.

Maybe they could use some experienced help. A community service volunteer opportunity????

For what it's worth, the forum works just fine on my Android phone, using Chrome. No need for an app.

It's not a "community service" bunch of code. Besides people I do work for own %100 of any code I write, which is standard in this profession.

The "go to first unread" isn't available in vertical mode, many mobile users "lock" the orientation to vertical, so you have to go through the process of unlocking and then rotating your phone to go to first unread, and then re-locking.

Also, obviously there are no notifications so having to come back to the site just to check your notifications is a minor inconvenience. But less so than the rotating screen issue.

Here are 2 screenshots to show you.

The vertical mode should be fixed now. Push notifications are possible through an addon using 'pushbullet' or 'pushover' are you familiar with those mobile options? I don't do much browsing at all on mobile.
