More of a roll call really but at the last outing we were suggesting an APUG.org/Ireland exhibition next year, possibly the autumn and running in Dublin and Cork.

Can we kick start the thread with expressions of interest etc.

I'd love to think I could, but I've yet to do anything I think exhibition worthy.. but I'll certainly support the rest of ye in any way I can.

Síle I don't believe you... I'm sure you have something "worthy" and if not... it will be a great start of year project!!!! We all shoot such different stuff it's a great idea for a group show...

Thanks Catherine, I certainly wouldn't say no, but it's definitely something I'd love to work towards.

I did have this new studio project in mind for the new year.. Penguin erotica meets Fizz Kong Fooey.. more about that later

I'm thinking along the lines of Síle, just don't know if my work is up to exhibition standard. I'm even reluctant to hang stuff on the walls of my own home. But maybe as Catherine suggests it would be a project for the new year.

Ah guys, I didn't expect this reaction. I don't want to force anyone into doing anything they aren't comfortable with.

I'm in. I guess we would need to book the gallerys as soon as possible. Any suggestions?

It's an interesting Idea, I like most others it appears, have got no further than putting things on my own walls. That said it would make for a project and why not, it's not like we're going to suffer if people don't like our pictures.

Count me in

Fintan,

Don't worry about it, you're not forcing anyone to do anything. If I can produce some work I'm happy for "the public" to see, then I'll take part otherwise I'll support the rest of you. It's a great idea and definitely something to aim for.

I'm in too.

Btw, there is no such thing as 'exhibition standard' as far as I am concerned. Just print up your work to a level that you are happy with and be proud to share it - you'll be very glad you did.

Great idea Fintan

I feel the same as most people but like Les was saying, step out of the comfort zone!

Exhibiting photos is a lot like having children. If you "wait 'till you can afford them," you'll probably never have kids; likewise, if you wait until "you have something worth exhibiting," you may never get around to exhibiting. Just set a date, make up your mind that you're going to exhibit, and GET TO WORK! With all the awesome subject matter in Ireland, the great workshops Fintan and Peter are organizing, and the loads of talent you guys have got going, an Irish APUG exhibition should be tops. And, you have good venues in which to do them!

Now stop with the excuses and get to work . . . .

Hey Michael, if it was possible and seeing that you are an honorary Irish man, you would be very welcome to exhibit with us? The only problem is that my prints would look even worse if hung beside yours.

Okay, here's one possible venue-Cork Public Museum. They have a gallery upstairs with rotating exhibits... I've seen a quilt show there, also Ellis Island photos. Not sure how early they book out, but I've met the curator, Stella a few times and I know she's always interested in new ideas.
Here's what they had this year, You can see the layout of the room. Suitable? Just gonna add, click on the last link on that page and you'll see the photo exhibit that's currently up

Would love to join you guys! All depends on timing of course, but only on one condition -- I don't want my stuff next to Peter's IR prints or liths or no one will look at mine!! Definitely good stuff there for an exhibition!

You guys should also look at Sirius Art Gallery in Cobh, since they do a lot of photo exhibits, it's a GREAT space, charming area of the country, and right next to Cork, anyway. That gives you two good possible options with the Public Museum. Also in Dublin, be sure to talk to the Photography Gallery in Temple Bar as they are another outstanding venue, although getting booked there can take awhile. DCU and DIT in Dublin are other possible venues and DIT, especially, has an interest in promoting photography and you'll get plenty of exposure to college students and the "next generation" of shooters. Finally, the University of Limerick also has some great exhibition space and they have done photo shows in the past.

There are plenty of good venues in Ireland, so you might even think about taking the show to a couple of cities to maximize your exposure.

Would Airfield be a logical venue for us in Dublin? No canoe needed either

Sounds like a plan..

Are you sure we can't use the canoe though?

Airfield? Already on the case, I contacted them a few days ago and I'm waiting for a reply.

Fintan, what about the Gallery of Photography?

From a publicity standpoint, I think you will draw more visitors to a known gallery than you will to a space that is less-known, although excellent from an exhibitors' perspective. These galleries are tied in to the media, they have their standard invitation lists, protocols, etc., whereas Airfield may not be as well equipped to provide those services -- even if it is a great space.

It's one thing to show and another thing to be seen!
