We've passed the 3k mark. The power of crowd funding sure is amazing. This will also help cover transaction fees and the tax man. A few donations keep coming in so I'll let this run for a bit longer. Thanks again everyone!

It has been great seeing all the different names of the people who have donated so far, some I recognize, some I don't. If you are a fan of analog photography and of this wonderful oasis Sean has provided for us and you haven't yet made a donation, please do so. It is well worth the small sacrifice.
To all those that have donated... "Thank You!"

I've been traveling on business for the past couple weeks and will continue to be away from home for another week or so, so I haven't had much time to pop my head into APUG lately, but thanks to everyone who is working on and supporting the upgrade in every way! It's amazing to see how APUG has grown since its founding and continues to build.

Sean- good luck with the transition,

I have been loyal member, one period a better supporter for over 11 years now. This site is IMO the best site for traditional darkroom
printers. I have been an active proponent of including digital process to the wet darkroom and make no apologies for that and I hope Sean comes to his senses
and eats some humble pie and join the rebel alliance.

The history of what has been written here on APUG in the thousands of threads is an invaluable resource . (yes I know the doubters to the validity of each persons point of views, but that is what makes this site so good, everyone can have a say and its up to the reader to sort through the wisdom and find out what actually works in their photographic world]

I wish APUG was around when I started out... I remember waiting patiently for the Fred Picker notes, I have them all. I encourage all members to pitch in right now
as something like this site comes around once in a lifetime and without this New Zealander's persistence we would not have this wonderful resource.

I am hoping to be part of the organizing committee that lands the Second APUG conference... I have a vision... Photostock 2017- Michigan lets do it again. I would imagine
John Callow would help me again and we get Sean back over hear again... I can see Bill rolling his eyes, but he has the perfect location, I cannot see doing it in Toronto again, but Michigan is central.

I also think Mustafa should come over as well and spread some of his magical pixie dust on us.

It is always inspiring to see when a community gets together to back one of its own financially! Giving after natural disaster seems less inspirational in comparison.

Only about 25% of the pledges to Nepal for earthquake recovery have been followed up by GIVING!!!

Even impoverished Haiti sent $1 Million to Nepal http://www.ekantipur.com/2015/05/29...-1m-for-nepal-earthquake-recovery/405828.html, one member of the 'disaster struck' community helping another member of the same 'disaster stuck' community.

I think the planned integration of APUG and DPUG should go a long way toward making hybrid technique information more available. As for APUG, I'd like to see it stay within it's guidelines (although I find the work you, and others, are doing in that realm very interesting. I'd like to learn more, but in a more appropriate place).

I'm hoping the tighter integration between APUG and DPUG on the back end makes it easier to maintain the uniqueness of APUG on the front end. That may sound counterintuitive, but I'm guessing it's not.

Tighter integration hopefully means quicker and easier movement of off-topic threads to their more appropriate venue. Plus easier movement of readers who then wish to follow that moved thread to its new home.

And as a result a cleaner, less antagonistic, and more enjoyable experience for all on both sides.

I am hoping that if the end result is a historic print process, any methods of getting there will be open for discussion. That way nothing would be off topic if we are only concerned with the final wet print production.

from what sean's faq states it is going to do just that .. connect the 2 sites at the hip/back door.
and i hope there is a switch one can turn on, much like the " exclude topics / ignore from view" list on the
general settings page, so the 2 sites can be integrated for whoever wants them to be one and the same, and
apart, for those who don't care for that sort of thing. whatever it will look like, i can hardly wait !

This site was instrumental in steering me back to the analogue world. It's a valuable resource and an encyclopedia of photographic knowledge. Of course, donation made!

And with better back end integration, hopefully that discussion can take place on DPUG with easier access by, and thus greater input from, those APUG members who may also be interested in the nuts and bolts of such hybrid techniques, while at the same time not at the expense of those who are interested in the more fully traditional approach to those historic print processes.

It would be a win-win deal for both sides...

I have never been trusting of back room door discussions ...what does back end integration mean to you?

I have never been trusting of back room door discussions ...what does back end integration mean to you?

System-level capabilities and tools common to both environments. For example...

Things like single ID credentials for both sides, so that a logon for one side is an automatic logon for the other, thus facilitating easier user switching (lower number of clicks and password typing) from one area of interest to the other.

And thread mobility. Meaning the moderators can more easily and less disruptively move threads from less to more appropriate areas of interest and discussion, while minimizing the loss of viewership of those threads in the process.

And cross-platform visibility. So that if Ken wants to see if what Bob is saying about digital negatives might be a better road to a final print than what he is trying to do currently with an analog-only approach, he can do that quickly and cleanly. But if he doesn't want to do that, he doesn't need to wade through large volumes of off-topic (to him) subject matter to find references to other possible analog-only solutions.

I'm merely speculating here. I don't know what features and capabilities might or might not be available, when all is said and done.

But anything that will help with reducing the often unintentional antagonism (think uninitiated new users innocently asking digital first questions, then being pounced upon), as well as the blatantly intentional trolling antagonism (you guys know who you are...), then it couldn't but help with the creatition of a much more enjoyable experience for all.

It means letting the "Darkside Photography Users Group" (DPUG) in ... may the force be with you ....

Basically this is it. The core systems of APUG & DPUG will be the same, however each site will be it's own unique entity. One user account and profile will work on both sites. Threads can be moved between sites, new posts or searches can search both sites, you have one PM box between sites, etc. APUG will seem no different unless you decide to 'activate' and opt-in to DPUG as well. If you want no part of DPUG then you will not even know it exists. If you opt in, then when you click "new posts" you see everything on both sites, same for gallery, articles etc. This allows us to keep APUG 100% to it's charter and for those who want to dabble in Hybrid/Digital they can opt-in to that. The reverse also applies to DPUG, if a DPUG member wants only DPUG they do not opt-in to the connection to APUG. This also greatly simplifies my management of both systems (1 database, 1 set of backups, one admin panel and more). If you have further questions just let me know.

Thanks again everyone for the massive show of support!
