Sorry I read more into Jorge's post then was there.

If we lower or even remove the prize money we still don't have the bodies or time to manage the competition. I didn't think it through as well as I should have and I didn't anticipate being as busy as I have been. We're still negotiating with instructors for workshops, trying to set up demos and put together some PR, after that we have to get vendors and sponsors. In next to no time at all it will be the holidays and our window to get commitments and any press will have gone away.

Basically it works like this. I screwed up. I am sorry.

If we do an as yet undefined open ended thing and we get more responses than we have wall or floor space, we have four days to move them in and out. No judging, no return mail, no one left out, a tenth of the work for Bob's staff, the thing stays within apug and Bob, Eric, Art and myself can keep our focus on the conference.

It may seem like we jumped the gun the fact is I would rather make the decision now before people send stuff in.

This is the first APUG Conference, hopefully of many. My advice would be to do what you feel you can, and to do it well. If you try and cram more in than you can manage then everything will suffer.

Unfortunately, owing to financial constraints, I won't be attending the conference. I would have liked to participate in a competition but, hey, it isn't that big a deal. If you have time to organise a show and can work out a way for non-attending members to contribute then I'd like to send over a couple of prints (perhaps for a "How Not To..." category! ) but if this proves impractical then again, don't worry about it.

The main thing is to make the conference itself a success. I have every faith that you'll pull it off.

All the best,

Frank

Priceless words, rarely heard around here. I can think of quite a few world "leaders" we could stand to here that from. I raise my glass to you.
