Hi,

Unfortunately I've just discovered APUG and haven't enough time to raise the cash to go to this amazing conference. This is like my calling, lol. Instead, my school did fundraising for the PPOC in Halifax . I'm just wondering, the title suggests this is an annual event, will it be held in Toronto every year?

Thanks,
Kris.

This is the first one, so I don't think anyone knows where the next one will be.

All the work for this conference has been done on a volunteer basis; with two of our members carrying a tremendous load of it. The show's location is being held at an APUG members business. This one has taken over a year in planning and execution.

I would be fine with the next conference staying in Toronto, but I don't think it would be fair to the people doing the work to expect them to start working on the next conference right away. I guess the discussion will come up after the conference about the next one.

We put annual in the title to help push the rock up the hill. If we don't do things such as have events with wide exposure people will learn to believe that film is some old, outdated, insignificant, inferior thing grand dad used.

Next year it will be someone else's turn (I vote for Wayne) to take the rock a little further.

It does need to be done annually. The first one is turning out to be ok (being careful not to jinx the thing) and so succeeding years should be better stil. If we stop now the rock is likly to roll back a bit.

Very cool, glad to know the ambition is there and that this event is turning out. If it's Toronto, or East of Toronto next year I'll assure we start fundraising early to get to this thing.

Maybe you could drop by this year and help with the distribution of flyers and such . We could use your help.

Any set dates yet? We're beginning fundraising for attending a conference this spring already.. I'm trying desperately to avoid a PPOC related event and get our college up to APUG this year.

I'll "second" this query.

Is anyone working on the repeat?

Next May is only 7 months away. I'm hoping to join in next time - either in T.O. or anywhere else in N.A.

I will try to give a personal update regarding a second conference.

John Callow has moved to Vancouver which is problematic for our team, as we met 4-6 times either in Windsor or Toronto in the months befor APUG Confernce 1. This fact is very critical as John and I work well together and after we are done yelling at each other things got done. Now he is out of earshot as am I.
I have been thinking about a second conference ever since.

We at Elevator have decided to host multiple series of dedicated four day workshops starting in Dec 06 with Sandy King and Mark Nelson. When Les Mclean or Tim Rudman have a reason to be in North America we will try to have them head up 4 day intensive courses in their specific areas of expertise.
We are hoping to have Kerik do a gum over platinum workshop next year the dates are not set. As well we would like to bring back most of the instructors of the first conference and some new talented photographers.
I have in mind David Lewis doing a course on Bromoil, Steven Evans doing a course on large format to pyro silver prints and many others over the next few years.
Regarding a Conference like the last one, most of the instructors did not like the 4hr lesson aspect, as well it created havic here.
We would only host a next conference if Sean was assured to be in Toronto as well some more facilities to help us move the crowds around.
We would not do it in May as the weather was pissy and cold for our guests and I think we would concentrate less on lab and more on photography outings with our lab as a support service rather than the *whole Magilla* as John would say.
Don't get me wrong , I would host in a heartbeat but I think that the next one would be much larger. *we had over 200 people on and off over the first conference* and we would definately need to spread the responsibility around a bit more .

As one who observed Bob and John going totally nuts, I agree. A few more folks need to step up to the plate and offer their services. I have already offered my assistance - a few more?

Thanks for this update, Bob.

So, in essence, it sounds like Elevator will be hosting more extensive workshops for instructors like Tim Rudman and Les Mclean, as opposed to offering more of the half-day workshops at the time of a conference. I can appreciate it was logistically very challenging - but it makes me wish even more that I'd learned of it sooner, simply for the convenience of workshop AND conference being held at the same place/time. Ah, well.

I will have to watch this space, then, for more information about the next conference, and hope you get the local support you need.

As you finalize these workshops at Elevator, I trust you will offer up a course schedule here at APUG?

If you go to www.hybridphoto.com you will see the first workshop listed for Dec 2006.
We will be announcing our full workshop program on the newsletter section signup at www.elevatordigital.ca .
Because some of our workshops will be hybrid in nature and some will be all analoque we are experiencing a confusing period of time to be able to market them.
This will all sort itself out over time as both Seans sites mature and have their devotees deciding where to spend their time .

We are totally commited to both sites and want to be able to benifit from marketing traditional and hybrid workshops that do reflect Elevators workflow.

Well I had a blast at the 1st one even though it was pretty much my introduction to APUG. Not sure how much I can help from Halifax but if you need anything definitely don't hesitate to ask. The first one was incredible and I'd love to see #2.

1000 per workshop, i wish it were in my price range. Here's hoping for a conference shape up. In PEI, but anything I can do to help, I will.
