Apple Watch users: can you wear one in the changing bag?

I'm not supposed to know, but our kids are buying me an iwatch Apple Watch for my 75th b-day. We bought my wife one for her 70th last year and she loves it. I didn't ask for one, but I know I'm getting it.

Is that something I can wear in a changing bag while loading film? I bet not, but I really don't want to take off a watch every time (which is nearly every day). Is there a way to prevent a suddenly lit watch face?

I use an inexpensive knockoff of the Apple Watch, so I can't answer your question, but I know that with my watch, I have to take it off before loading film on to reels.

I just have a lousy Mickey Mouse watch that work gave me over twenty years ago. No lights. No bells. No whistles. Just a lousy Mickey Mouse watch. And I remove that watch so that the watch band do not catch on the elastic band.

The normal behavior of the apple watch is to wake the display when you rotate or raise your wrist, or when you get an alert, like an incoming message. I don't think there's a way to mute the display (you can however mute the sound, which is something you'll want to learn how to do). You can turn it off, but I take it off when I put my hands in a changing bag, to be sure I don't forget.

I own an Apple Watch and a TAG. I've found that the Apple Watch illuminates at the least inopportune times, so they are banned from my darkroom and mine is *always* removed when using a change bag (including when I lend a hand at a local lab, revisiting my early days as a semi-pro photo lab manager. )

My TAG on the other hand, is only removed when I use a changing bag, but remains on when I'm in my darkroom. The illuminated hands and hour markers are so minimal that it has no effect in the larger space, but I don't take chances when using in the confined space of a changing bag - my film is far to precious to take a chance.

Yeah, when film is involved, I take mine off too. Theater mode is turned off when you turn the dial, but I don’t take chances anyway.

Fixed that for you, Nanette (I think).
As for wearing a TAG watch in a darkroom, I'd be more likely to wear something a lot more inexpensive instead!

. It’s completely waterproof so I’m not concerned about submerging in water. And if I had to submerge my hands in chemicals, it most definitely gets placed on the dry side, well away from the dev or fix.

Isn't the simplest way to take it off and put it in your pocket before you put your hands in the changing bag, as Matt suggests That way unless you find yourself being swept into the trash can, the watch ought to stay safe

There is a caveat here, of course- when is there never one of those on Photrio? You must not be tempted to wear nothing except a shiny latex apron a la Greg Davis. I have never found one with a pouch for a watch. Mind you with only a latex apron I can say that in my case there would be a real danger of my being swept into the trash instantly - even before being able to load the film
