Hi Everyone, Photo Warehouse is selling Svema foto 100 film that they said was cold stored. It is 2009 expiration. Have any of you used this film and how did it look? Did you like the results? Thanks.

Yes, I've used this film, but branded as Astrum Foto 100. Its surprisingly good. Here's a sample image: https://live.staticflickr.com/1818/44124451431_b7bb9518d2_k.jpg and another, using an R72 filter (yes, it has "infrared" capabilities): https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50960337467_1bb91a129f_k.jpg

Its contrasty, so you'll want to be gentle with development. A compensating developer will be an asset, or go with Xtol, which will be kind to your highlights. Avoid Rodinal, unless you like Ortho Litho contrast.

PS: I have bought this direct from Astrum in the Ukriane, for about $2.75 per roll, plus shipping, which added about 50 cents per roll.

Is the Astrum foto 100 the same film? Recall, in 2019, there was a rather heated discussion here about whether the FEMA factory had been demolished and if the Astrum company was making (selling) a different film.

I have no way of knowing definitively the answer to that question. However, it is my understanding that Astrum doesn't manufacture their own films, they are branding things under their own name. The packaging for Astrum Foto 100 and Svema Foto 100 is nearly identical. Same graphics, same colors, only the brand name is different. I'd take that as a clue.

The Svema film factory has been completely dismantled. Pictures of the empty factory rooms were online for quite some time many years ago.
It was one of the first film factories globally which stopped production. There is no Svema film emulsion making and coating anymore for a long time now.
Films which are now offered under the Svema label are coated elsewhere. It is relabelled film.

Best regards,
Henning

Ah, the old Agra film experience. I fell in love w/ their films, then they stopped making them, and here came all the rebrands stuffed into canisters that said Agfa, but weren't. Most unfortunate, because their color Optima films were wonderful. They had some of the most unrealistic colors on earth, but wow, that stuff looked cool!

Thanks, I know that. That's why I was specifically asking about the cold stored film from 2009.
