Does anyone know how or where to go to get permission to photograph on the "New Jersey" side of Ellis Island, which is in ruin? I haven't been there since I was a child, but was wondering if you can simply walk to that side of the island and atleast photograph exteriors. I'm sure the buildings are all locked and would require authority or open them to photographers.

I went to Ellis Island a year and a half ago to photograph and there wasn't a lot of access. You do have to got through an airport type security to take the boat. And beware, they have not seen many film users. They were interested in the 4x5, and the boxed film. And I had to stop them from opening the film holders. The ruins from the train depot, right there at the dock, looked more interesting that what I got access to on the island. They keep you in the renovated part of the island.
