Who here hates it when you find exactly what you need at a reasonable price, only to discover that there's a minimum order that greatly exceeds it?

Show of hands?

Me too!

http://www.howardglass.com/home.htm

This place has an excellent selection of useful glass products for photographers. They have front surface mirrors (perfect for reflex cameras, TLR or SLR), opal & etched glass (ground glass) and just a wide variety of glasses in different thicknesses and for very reasonable prices.

The kicker is that there's a $65 minimum. What I need only costs $1.70. If anyone needs something that this company supplies, let's go in on a group buy.

If you're interested, let me know and we can work out the details at that point.

Alternatively, you could just tell me where to get 1.2mm thick glass cut to specifications.

I could use some beamsplitter material but I'm not seeing anything there - or am I missing some?

I'll go over their page tonight to see if there is anything I need.

I need 99.6mm X 125.0mm (+/- 0.4mm). This is basically just the size of a 4x5" piece of film.

If you've got some pieces of the right thickness that are bigger than that, I could try my hand at cutting it. It's so thin afterall.

Thanks George!

Hey Brian, look under 'miscellaneous' maybe.

I found the micrometer and the 10x15 cm plates seem to be 1.2mm thick ( including the coating) but the 10cm seems to just under 99mm. So close. I also have some 4x5 plates (Agfa-Farbenplatten) but you won't want those. I'll have to add a battery to my shopping list tonight and get some better measurements and get back to you.

George, I really appreciate that. It's possible that the <99mm plate might work, I just need to measure my Linhof pressure-plate holder. Luckily the battery in my micrometer is good.. :D

Chris:

How many 4x5 plates do you need? I can spare 10, 20....well, maybe 40 or 50 :whistling:

Alternatively, I need to order up somemore glass from them and could put your order in with mine.

Hey Charley, are they thin enough to fit in that holder + 2 additional sheets of film? (you know, the one you sold me )

I'd still be willing to do a group order, but it seems there's too much generosity on APUG to necessitate it. I'd probably only make up a very small portion of the order.

Chris:

The holders are in New York and I'm in New Hampshire for the weekend, so we'll have to wait until Monday to be sure. If you look at that photo I posted on LFF, you'll see that I've got a 1.2mm glass plate and one sheet of film stuffed in the holder. I don't recall much difficulty doing that.

BTW, I pass by S. I. Howard going back and forth between NY & NH. I've stopped in; nice folks, but they weren't inclined do "while-you-wait" service. UPS is cheap and I'll get 1 or 2 day delivery. Let me know what you want, and I'll give them a call Monday.

You'll find everything you could ever dream of at Edmund Optics www.edmundoptics.com

They've been at it since WWII, and have a huge selection of products, many of which they manufacture.

I don't recall any minimum order, although I haven't ordered anything in a while.
