I know one is sold for the B45 but has anyone made one for the enlarger?
Thank you.

I think Omega has offered a factory X-pan neg carrier, and perhaps others have, but usually the ones I've seen for various enlargers are machined from a 35mm neg carrier. Another alternative would be a neg carrier with adjustable masking blades, or you could just take a 6x7 glass carrier and make a mask for it from black paper or mylar tape used for masking slides.

David, thank you!!! I've not thought about using extras of what I have, i.e., neg carriers or ANR glass to modify.
(Also, I've never seen a neg carrier with adjustable masking blades)
Thanks again'

David, I just spoke to the guy doing my plumbing for the SS sink, I'm going to show him a couple extra neg carriers I have and he may be able to machine shop something. I wish I wasn't confined to a bed as I'm really excited.
Thx

I made one for an Omega D by "expanding" the opening in a standard 35mm carrier. (actually for my Horizon, but same idea) I now have a Beseler 4x5 (is that what you meant by "B45"?), and have already purchased the extra 35mm carrier, I just haven't done the machining yet. It's not a problem for anyone that can cut aluminum and use a file.

I did so.

Quite easy - I found a 35mm neg carrier. Measured out the dimensions of an Xpan negative, and drew it onto the carrier.

A friend at a local high school shop class had a plasma torch, which he used to cut the hole very precisely. I then used a file and metal sandpaper to smooth it out.

It works like a charm, and gives a unique full-frame border that I can choose to include or not.

I made one for my Saunders 4550XLG. Not too hard with a serious file.

But the easier way is to get a 4x5 glass carrier and mask off the glass. Works like a charm and keeps the neg super flat.

I have made 6x4.5, 6x6 and 6x7 holders for my LPL 6700. Having a CNC router/drill helps and there was no way I was going to pay the prices these things go for new.

Steve.

I had a flat piece of aluminium water cut for a neg carrier for my Horizon 202, which is about the same size.

As I knew the fella doing it, the cost was extremely cheap. Drilled some holes and fashioned some brass for film alignment as per a standard DeVere 504 enlarger.

It's heavier, but that isn't an issue.

Mick.

dwdmguy, I have a machine shop and I'm only one town over from you.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Hey Pete. Are you kidding. Of course. Can I come visit with a neg carrier to make one?
Also, are you involved in the Monmouth Camera club on 537? I just found it but the broke for summer.
Thanks so much.

XPAN Negative Carrier

I once had a Bogen negative carrier customized. It was done by Ken Ruth at Photography On Bald Mountain in Davenport, CA. The edges were very smooth.
