I need to get some chemicals that I have to mail order. I'm wary of ordering them now due to the extremely hot weather that we've been having.

Does anyone have any experience with chemicals ( specifically developer ) being delivered in the heat? Did they turn out to be fine, or was there a noticeable degradation in quality?

Thanks,
Jan

I have been using all powdered chemicals from Kodak and have never ran into a problem. D-76 has always done it's job beautifully.

I was thinking more about liquid chemicals - specifically Rodinal. I would imagine that powdered ones should be OK.

ok. I can't really anwer on that..but I will say I have never heard of a problem and have never noticed any warnings on the liquid chemicals that I have worked with over time....

Well, D-76 is mixed from powder with water 120º to 130º F. So it is clear that D-76 can withstand temperatures that high. When it is still powder, even higher still.
Liquid developers? Some color developers work at 100º F.

The bottom line here is that, while I don't know the maximum temperatures that all developers can withstand, I see no reason why almost any developer couldn't withstand an excursion to 100º+ temperatures for short periods of time.

I have an order of RA4 paper and some Plus X shipping cross country in this inferno.
I suspect these materials would be more susceptible to problems then chemicals.

Ok, that's all I needed to convince me. Thanks for the input people - now I can order that Rodinal without worry before I go through complete withdrawal!

Don't forget the XTOL which is powder and will not suffer the heat in shipping.

Steve

I would think that most liquid concentrate developers were subject to much higher temperatures during production than they will receive during delivery on even the hottest of days.

Steve.

You can't win trying to pick optimum weather for shipping, even if it's nice today, the stuff may have been shipped to the dealer on a hot or cold day. I think Rodinal can withstand anything...EC
